I know, I know, there is already a post for the get together, but these are my first lakers ever and well I'm gonna be a little selfish.
Arrived at Granby about 9am (I got a little lost, ended up in grand lake and had to turn around) I brought my girlfriend and we fished untill 1pm. This was the most fun I have ever had ice fishing. EVER! Of the two groups I was in the one closest to the ramp, fishing in what I overheard as 53 to 60 feet of water. We were fishing just of the bottom. Best stratagey was to stick your rod tip just over the hole, reel up slack, then lift and jig. Most takes were on the fall but my girlfriend got all hers "deadsticking" or forgeting about the jig and screaming when one hit. The hits were more suttle than I thoght. She was using 2", fat, fresh water basics glow jigs (thank you LUNKERLAKER) and I was using 3.5" strike king bleeding tubes in pearl pepper (these have the red skirt). We couldn't find 3/8oz red hook northland jigs at Sportsmans (LUNKERLAKER?) so we used 5/16oz with the red hook. All rods set up with 12lb floro on baitcasters. Tipped it all with sucker meat from the lovley lady at discount in Granby.
Here is a pic of the first one I got! No jokes on how I'm holding it.
Here is another shot of that beauty.
This was my girlfriends first fish and what a fish it was. The pic does this fish no justice. This WAS a 24" laker at least and it could have gone as big as 26"
Of corse once she got the taste of it she smoked me.
Another sweet mack who graced my presence.
She ending up getting 5 by the end of the day.
I ended with 4 (one was hers i reeled in but don't tell)
It was just an amazing day. The weather was great. The fishing was great. The company was great. It was great to meet and talk to pitbull, rad, capthook, arkfisher, and the rest who's names I forgot. Also I wish I could have met more of you. Those hot dogs looked good but I needed to get back to work (dowdy, the pan, and granby in one week was asking a little much) but it was worth it. We have to do something like this again. I want to be able to talk to more of you it seemed like every one was catching and having a great time. This realy was an amzing trip. No better time to catch my first lakers. My girlfriend informed me today that she was done catching little fish and was now acustom to these size of fish (isn't she great)!
