Had fun exploring a place I've never been. Lake is still fully open except back by the inlet. Didn't know how the hike would be, so didn't take my gear.

About 3/4 mile in.

Snowed alittle, windy, but not too bad. This is by the South Boat ramp, never fished there, so have no idea where most people go there to fish. Maybe someone can use this update :)

The cliffs about a quarter mile from osprey is good for lakers if you snapjig krocodiles. You'll also lose tackle like crazy.

Iced gross yesterday, first post btw. Skim ice has covered the entire open lake with the only safe ice coming as you near the inlet. 10-12 inches of clear ice and more to come with this cold snap. Fished on fingers and structure near the channel in 19 feet of water. Landed a nice 24" "ish" laker on microjigs and waxies, and some nice browns and bows on 1" green tubes tipped with maggots. It wasn't windy and was fun as hell, ONLY person on the entire lake. Heaven.

no tigers, kokes not found, just about hand-augered my upper-body to death punching holes looking. seems like the fish are all lone wolves apart from some groups of lakers they mostly just cruise nonstop by themselves. Every once in a while I'd get a big mess of small marks that would cruise by but I couldn't get anything to bite if they were kokes they were tiny.

I'm taking it upon myself with my 3-day work schedule to really get into Gross this winter, especially because it seems to get no love on this site. It's just so close and underutilized and beautiful and mysterious I love it. Its about to warm up so we will lose most of the ice im afraid but just last week I was smackin' down cutbows from shore yo-yo'ing them in 10-20 fow in open water so I'm cool with whatever happens!

oh and by the way I was there yesterday alone, again..serene. But too much snow and the main lake looks capped but it was DEFINITELY NOT AND VERY UNSAFE, so I turned around instead of hiking through hip deep snow to the inlet. My family thanks me.
