Has anyone fished Gross on a boat yet? They started allowing boats without motors last year, no float tubes. I know the fishing regs still says no boats but their is a sign posted their with the new regulations. I have caught splakes, kokanee rainbows and browns from shore just wondering if anyone hooked any of the big lakers from a boat. They also have Tiger Muskee.

I heard that the stream (S. Boulder creek, I think) that flows out of Gross had significant fish kill due to extremely low water flow this winter. Is this true?

i fished gross last august out of a canoe. there is a canoe rental on the way down to the lake. which is pretty cheap i think is was about 40$ for the day if you haul it down to the lake your self. i paddled my wife all over that lake the best luck i had was just before you got to the inlet on the sw side. did not catch any lakers but caught a bunch of bows in the 16-18 range, there was a guy the weekend before us who had rented one of her s canoes and caught a real nice tiger musk she had a pic of the fish and if memory serves me correctly it was 46" not sure on the weight. i cant wait to get back up there this summer O0

Fished it last weekend, caught one little brown before i lost my setup (only egg and copper john in my box, i'm a dry-flyer) and had to swithc to spin-setup. The streem looked to be in very good shape. Watched lots fish taking small midges from the surface, nothx would hit a pistol-pete though. spoted lots of fish so i don't thing the streem is in bad shape, although it was my first time there and i didn't see anythig over 10 or 11 in.

i fished gross for my first time ever last november and caught lots rainbows , and some spawning kokanee salmon , the lake is really nice , lots of nice coves and deep dropoffs

I've been fishing Gross for about 8 years. If you fish the oposite of the dam were you can't drive too you can catch some nice fish. Come up Baseline road and about 15miles Hwy72 around mile marker 8. The lake is around 300ft deep in the middle. I have caught fish all day long in the middle of summer. Salmon work great, I also use worms and rostertails. The lake has fresh water shrimp and pink crawdads. I have fished along that whole side with my best luck on lures around the dam. Their is a short cut to the dam on the other side. Steep

I fished Gross last year, didnt catch anything. My wife was steering the canoe while I was fixing the kids' line and she bumped a floating log, which had a tiger muskie lurking under. The muskie thrashed and scared the hell out of her, almost pitched us in.

What type of bait were you using? Minnows and worms work great and how deep were you. Gross has very steep banks but their are alot of rock outcrops down their fro fish to hide. I recommend a fish finder to find them if you are not familiar with the lake. Looking at the dam onn the water side I fish the left side and can't remember ever getting skunked.

So from what im told no big boats are allowed on the lake is that right?

Is fishing from shore for musky productive at all and is it easy to fish from shore at the lake?

Minnows and worms work

Hope those are dead minnows you use there because live ones are illegal above 7,000 ft.

Goodtimes: Only cartop boats are allowed including canoes, kayaks, pontoon boats, and rafts with more than one air chamber. Everything must be paddled. If you fish by the parking areas it is not too bad of a walk to the shore which is very steep at most parts of the lake. But if you want to walk around the lake it is a great challenge and I would recommend packing light and bringing lots of water. Also don't forget about those horrible chinook winds.

I use the minnows in the package with a jig head and bounce them along the bottom. the browns love them
