Any suggestions on a fast cutting hand auger...My cousin and I have been using a 6" in mora and it's hell....
Went to that BPS seminars on Saturday they have a hand auger there for 80$ by strike masters that the way the angle is and the type of blades it has will cut threw ice like it was butter. I havent personally used it but they seemed pretty confident in it.fishinguitars said:Any suggestions on a fast cutting hand auger...My cousin and I have been using a 6" in mora and it's hell....
You have to buy the double-offset handle for Strikemaster Augers, separately from Strikemaster (their website catalog has them, and that's where I ordered mien) - they fit the lazer and mora augers - cost about $20 with shipping, or something close to that. It was one of the best purchases I made last year, and after getting used to cranking both arms, I got used to drilling holes in up to 30" of ice by hand without too much trouble.dante said:Haven't tried the double-offset handled augers yet. They sound pretty good, though. If I see anyone using them on the ice this year, I'll have to mosey over and check it out.
I've not had the asthma experience with hand augers, myself. I have found them easy to use when maintained. Not to say gas augers aren't nice, but if you have a constitution somewhat better than a marshmallow, you should be able to handle drilling holes, even deep ones with a hand auger (no offense, Trout).Trout said:The best hand auger is a Jiffy 3 hp 10" bit, cuts lick a dream. Also the roar of the engine and smelling the 2 stroke really gets you stoked up to fish. The only thing a hand auger will get you is a ashtma or heart attack .
I change mine once a year...I probably dont need to but I do anyway...I have about 15 sets of old ones...I know it helps if you spray them with wd-40 but I never have...I put the gard on...dont slam it to the ice...and never cut if there is sand on the ice...that will kill them in two turns of the handle...if you have a 6 inch and it wont cut you definately need new blades...how long do the blades usually last...assuming they are taken care of properly....

I'm with you on that trout, plus on the hand augers, I haven't found anywhere to mount a beerholder.
