I have neoprene chest waders that I rarely use. Mainly because I'm usually shore fishing with the kids and stick close to them. I think it would be more comfortable and I would get a lot more use out of hip waders. That way I could wade in a little bit and still be close to them. In addition, I recently acquired a canoe on Craigslist and it'd be good to have hip waders when in the canoe in case I need to step out into the water.

Now the question is do I go with neoprene or the pvc/rubber style.

Let me know what you guys think and advice from personal experience.

Thank you!

personally I would recommend wading pants.. they are so versatile and you will (if you are like me) find that you use them for countless purposes. Breathables is superior to neoprene, and there is always room for extra layers. I used to use neoprene for cold water stuff, but stopped because the breathables were so much better for all circumstances. If you do go with hip waders, I would go ahead and go with breathable as well... so much easier to move in and way lighter.

Oyey,

Interesting... this is the first I've heard of wading pants. I checked them out online and they will definitely be on my radar. I like the function and look, but the ones I saw (Patagonia) were out of the price range of what I was looking to spend right now.

Basically I found two used pairs of hip waders for ~$30 each and I'm trying to decide to get the neoprene or PVC/Rubber style.

Thanks for the suggestion. Wading pants may go on the Christmas list!

They are a bit more expensive, especially if you get pattys!!! Try Sierra Trading Post. They have tons of good stuff (read reviews before purchasing) and you can get an easy coupon code with a quick search on google.

I picked up a pair of Ducks Unlimited 3 ply stretch Nylon Hip Waders with a felt sole for $30 on Craigslist.

The guy even had the original box. He said he wore them once and based on the condition and the fact that he didn't realize the tag was still on them, I believe it!

I'd post a picture but I don't have a photo hosting account anywhere.

I felt like the guy on Reno 911, coming home with my new boots!
