New Member here. We are going up to Honholtz this weekend and was looking for a little advise on the lakes as this is my first trip there. Any info would be helpful.
#3 is fly and lure only, I have did well with Platte River Specials , Hornbergs, and QT's. The larger fish will be here, some nice browns.
#2 gets heavy stockings, bait or whatever works. Bring your waders or float tube.
I've only been once, last fall. (#3) We slayed the browns using bead head nymphs and elk hair caddis flies on spinning rigs with a bubble. We fished the south side by the reed bed.
I did real well 2 weekends ago at #3 & #2. The quality (size - up to 20"+) of fish is much better at #3. The quantity (10" to 11") is better at #2. For both lakes I used a floating fly line and black woolly buggers. John
