Didn't know Horseshoe lake at Lathrop State Park  was closed to boats during hunting season.
Was a great day on the water, I was the only canoe!
Lots of stocker trout hitting a little firetiger colored Flatfish, trolled real slow.
For some reason they would only hit the one lure, presented on 4lb line.
Spent some time trying to hook some fish that kept tugging on my 2 1/2 " tube jigs.
I'd hop them over the bottom and swim them in 15-20 feet of water and was getting lots of nice hits but no hook ups.
Started fishing about noon and most of the fish were caught by 2:30.

Lighter line interferes with lure action less, so wiggly lures like flatfish wiggle more. I have the experience that when it gets cold, the most action you can get on a slow retrieve produces more strikes from trout.

There are some really nice smallmouth in that lake, along with some big tiger muskies, too.

I have met the Musky. I'm always fishing for Smallmouth when they take my mono for lunch.
