Here is some test fishing footage I took with the phantom 3. Planning on doing some fishing vlogs or something along those lines and wanted to get some footage of myself casting. Wasn't trying to catch anything, really. Trying to figure out how to do a vlog without revealing too much. The drone shots might end up being out of the question, I guess. We'll see...this is just 720p but my quad will do up to 2.7k. The quad has gps so you can put it where you want it and just take your hands off the controls and it'll stay right where it's at. Definitely useful for shooting stuff like this.

That's cool Whomp! Did you have to register your drone?

Cool stuff. I very much want a drone. Not so much for fishing, but I have seen some BA boating films.
The possibilities are endless. You can use it for all kinds of stuff. Mine is pretty basic compared to what is available now but it still has a lot of the "smart" features like follow me, point of interest, waypoints, etc.

Agreed. If/when I buy, I need to find something that can fly 30 MPH. We do more watersports boating in the summer. Would love to get some videos of surfing/wakeboarding and slalom skiing.

I do know that there are many places they are officially illegal. Like Lake Powell, where I would really love to use it. Not sure how they enforce or what the penalties are though......

I believe mine does 35mph w/o gps and I think all the newer phantoms and the mavic do at least that, too. The inspires do like 50+mph. They're pricey, though. Regarding whether a place is illegal to fly or not, the FFA released an app that tells you if you're within five miles of an airport or if there are restrictions. If you're within five miles of an airport, you have to notify them before you fly. It's not perfect but it helps. Ive been told flying in state parks is legal, you just have to take off outside the park. The spot where I flew at Horsetooth was right outside the five mile radii of two airports so I didn't need to notify anyone and where I was flying at in the res isn't part of the park.

Very cool Whomp!

You are right the possibilities are endless.

A friend of mine is a very talented tattoo artist, skateboarder, graphic designer and filmer.

Here is a little of his drone footage from last year:

Those are cool, I've been looking at the Ehang Ghostdrone VR 2.0. Would work great for my treasure hunting and fishing fun, jeeping and other stuff.

Keep in mind that the illegal part would be FAA and penalties are starting to get serious. Also "harassing" emergency crews.
In state parks in Colorado it is $250 for a commercial film permit. It pisses me off to no end but "commercial" is often designated by the niceness of your gear not whether you're filming for profit. In cherry creek they will chase your ass down and demand a permit and kick you out without one. Chatty to a lesser extent. Don't know how they approach drones but things like the phantom are specifically for filming so seems like they'd be keen as compared to the little "toy" quads.

If you're in a populated space get yourself some basic liability insurance.

You can also make videos "private" on YouTube so people have to have the link to see them.

In other words, make videos and share with friends only.

Yea, that's badass. A great tool in certain situations. You can fly a whole reservoir looking for structure etc. from above. I love looking at aerial photos of reservoirs for that reason. Being able to use the GPS feature for exact positioning is pretty cool too. You could make some pretty cool vids with that thing. Thanks for sharing!!
