Chatfield seems to be the hot spot right now. It's the only place in the Metro area open to boating thus far and lots of walleyes are being caught. Please don't keep any walleyes right now, they are getting ready to spawn. I hope the DOW gets started on the egg collection process very soon, I've heard reports from three guys now that the walleyes they caught were squirting milk and/or dropping eggs when they caught them. The future of quality walleye fisheries in our state depends on the egg taking operation. The eggs are also traded with other states for other species of fish like catfish and stripers (to breed with white bass to make wipers!). If you would like to volunteer to help with the walleye spawn at Cherry Creek or Chatfield contact Jeff Looney at (303)933-3321.

This is good info, Don. Thanks again for the website and your input. Special care along with catch and release should be a consideration for all game-fish during their spawn. (just my two cents)

That walleye milking program is something else. I really hope to participate in that process this year or next.

Some FYI...One of the DOW guys told me they pulled a nice tiger muskie and a state record smallmouth during this operation last year out at Chatfield.

They do this "milking" out at Boulder Res. as well, correct?
