Just watched a fishing show where they were fishing Diamond Valley Lake in CA. They showed the the rules and regs sign at the boat ramp and the first rule really made me think " Dam I wish they would do this here"

Code:
Limits set by the California Department of Fish and Game. Click here for a complete list of regulations. You are responsible for knowing and complying with all Fish and Game regulations.

  1. NO swimming, personal watercraft, water skiing, float tubes or body contact of any kind is allowed.
Now im not trying to offend anyone but I sure wish we would have more places like this in the metro area.

If we had this rule I would not know how to stand in my boat without the constant shifting caused by boats passing 30 feet away from me at 40mph or faster.

Oh to live in a perfect world.

Yeah just 200hp fishing boats going 90 mph across the lake, boy that would rule.

I dont like jet skiers as much as anyone hence I fish Aurora for the peace and quiet...but they have as much right to the waterways as I do for the sport they love...that being said I couldnt believe their was a boat pulling a sled on Chatfield this past Saturday...the ones on the sled had bare legs...the water temp was 40...I thought I dont have a brain in my head for ice fishing!...CripeZ talk about morons...labotomy not required but helpful!!!

You know ZMan you are right water and Jet skiers have a right to the water just like us. What irritates me is the few and it is the minority of them that are inconsiderate and often down right dangerous.

I don't know why some people think its ok to pass so close to another boat that they get sprayed. I guess they are, hell I don't know what they are.

I wonder how they would like it if I trolled or cast right on top of a down skier? (that actually gave me a very funny visual, dropping a shad rap just past a skier and having a big old bass hit right next to the skier. Ok thats not very nice. But it is funny)

I never said they don't have a right. Your 100% correct, but doesn't mean I have to like it :) Ta the float tube thing is lame but I like the idea of a lake JUST FOR FISHING, That was my point

Last year when we were fishing at Chatfield, we were a good ways down from the swim beach. Speed boats were dropping kids off in the water outside of the swim beach area, a good distance from shore, and these kids were bobbing up and down in the water in thier life jackets. I kept thinking "Man, what if a speed boat or jet ski comes flying through there and didn't see those kids?" People just don't use thier heads. That went on all day, then they dropped a load of kids off in the water, right over where i had my lines out. A guy from the Bass Pro Shop told us that when they did that to him, he used to throw his line out over thier boats, and wack them in the head with a sinker. Ha. Not too sure that's the solution, but hey....

Haha koni, he better have made sure all he had tied on was a sinker I could just imagine the lawsuits from hooking someone with a couple trouble hooks in the eye lid or something.

Rig a line up with some spider wire heavy test and a bobber cast it at his trolling motor and reel him in and ask if you are bothering him.

Dont get me wrong I was plenty annoyed last Saturday...the couple of ski boats and the pain in the arse jet skiers were back in wakeless area of the inlet arm...the park hasnt bothered to put up the bouys yet marking the area but it is posted on the maps at the boat ramps...but the rangers dont do anything about it...just like you never see a warden on that lake checking anything...how many 17 inch walleyes do you think leave that lake in boats livewells on a weekend?...I have seen plenty guys catch walleyes that I know werent big enough and sure enough they toss them in a live well...and I too have been guilty...sick of too stupid of fisherman or inconsiderate that dont maintain the 150 foot minimum (by law) between them and shore anglers...I put on a big kastmaster and put it on the other side of their boat...they come back I will put it behind their boat and wrap up all the lines I can...oops sorry didnt know where your lines were...dumbarses...

There are tons of lakes in Colorado that boating is prohibited on and some that only allow hand propelled or belly boats. These lakes are thus for fishing only they just arent in the metro area like the lakes you fish.

Ski boats and jet skis...that's why you don't see me on a lot of the BIG water. If I do hit those places it is generally early Spring or late Fall.

There is a lot of financial power involved in boating. Most of which is controlled by the city. I don't think they will let that revenue go to make us anglers happy. But what SHOULD be done is better policing of the rules for boaters. A small fine or a warning for dangerous misuse is not a deterant...take a away a few boater's rights and we might see a change of mentality. The most I hear anyone get (barring there are no accidents or injuries) is a BUI...boating under the influence.

Just the stuff I see on Chatfield is enough to clearly indicate there is a problem. I won't belly boat these places for fear of being run down by a careless boater. If they see me on the pontoon, they will try to tip me in their wake. Bastages!

Thats what im say'in. We have a great fishery like CF but alot of people stay away from it due to a few dumb-a$$'es. Im not saying not to let people have fun but follow the rules. I too saw the boat towing some bare-foot kids around last Saturday. Not to mention there was a boat(Maybe the same one) Blasting there music, It wasn't to bad but they were blasting MIcheal Jacksons Thriller.

Me and an old freind of mine always talked about how cool it would be to buy Cherry Creek and do away with everything but fishing. Put up massive structure and make it a killer fishing only lake.......ONE CAN DREAM!!!!!

I'll toss out some rules I would like to see posted at some places. Not a big fan of signs but...

1. If you don't know what kind of fish you caught, throw it back.

2. If an angler can hear your stereo blasting across the lake at 7 AM, he/she has a right to smash it. (I might make an exception for Bronco games)

3. Operate jet skiis at your own risk!!! Management not responsible for injuries caused by anglers or your poor behavoir.

4. Litterbugs will be executed! You brought it in...take it back out!

5. Dogs not properly controlled by their owners can be used as bait.

This post would sound a lot better if it was read on a Friday and taken in the humor it was intended.

I am often amazed that there aren't more accidents on either of these lakes with the amount of traffic they get.

On summer weekends, I try to live by the early on early off rule to avoid the KAOS.

I love Pueblo and Aurora. I'm going to try and put a lot more time on those lakes whenever possible.
