Played hooky yesterday and tried my freshly tied flies (just started tying in Feb) by poking around the Middle St Vrain above Lyons. Water was 40 degrees. Mostly open. Saw fish darting from open water under the ice edges. Managed to float some flies along the edge, both nymphs and dries. Big skunkarooni. Still, better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

Quick question. I fished the vrain once a while ago and didn't do well and havn't been back. If I remember from Lyons the river either goes north to towards estes or south from lyons? Where were you fishing?

I was on the road that goes S out of Lyons, HWY 7, about 3 miles up from town limit. That is the Middle St Vrain. N St Vrain is along HWY 36 (for a little while) going N out of Lyons to Estes.
