Has anyone ever have there reel freeze up on them while Ice fishing? I was up at Green Mtn and it was only -6, my Abu Garcia's worked fine. I've never had this happen before!

I've made the decision on what reels that I'll use for Lake Trout fishing by putting them in the freezer for a few days and them testing them. Especially the drag. It's interesting how the temp affects them.

Have never ever had a problem with a Shimano while ice fishing.

@ Hook, I knew something was wrong the first time I reeled it up to check my lure. It was really stiff, I started fishing again. Got a hit and the reel wouldn't move, I couldn't even turn it manually!

Well that sucks, missing a fish because of equipment failure is the worst.
I've laid mine down landing a fish and had the ice problem I mentioned

Ice always use Quantum Hot Sauce in my reels and have never had that issue. This year I started using the Piscifun ICX5, with its sealed bearings it seems to be a solid cold weather reel.

Shimano's, but measure the greased fabric disc and order the same sized replacement carbontex drag discs. Run them dry, and you'll have the same drag at -10 as you do at 35, no need to have to adjust for sticky grease drag.
