I lied to Grumpie Gills. Told him I wasn't planning on hitting the mile till next week. But my wife said I could go this morning so I was at Witcher's Cove and fishing by 7-10am. 10 inches of ice there. Fished in 22 feet of water. Patch of open water just off the shore. The middle of the res. is still all open water from North boat ramp to Goose Island and to Howbert Point. Was also open water down by Sucker Cove. Seen 8 anglers at Cross Creek, 10 anglers at Rocking Chair-Lazy Boy area, 25 by Stoll Mt. campground, and there was 20 in the Witcher Cove area. Don't know how thick the ice was in these other areas. Most of the middle of the lake looked iffy. I didn't even have a bite. Didn't see anyone by me catch any either. Talked to 2 guys with electronics and they barely marked any. Was gonna try Howbert and Sucker but didn't have the summer poles. ;D Where the hells the cold winter weather? ??? Anyone else out there today do any good?

My bro and I did good at Stoll from 8-10 in 12 feet of water. All on different things. No pike, but had flag. After 10 went deep, nothing. Went back way shollow, still nothing. Really dried up after 10. Pressure ridge parallel to shore there. My R leg went through up to my hip, not cool, but at least it was just one leg. Ice was a solid 7 inches everywhere we punched through.

We were at cross creek. Crossed the pressure ridge. Fished at 3 diff depths and the most fish were at 14FOW but we only caught one. Obnoxious day.

EDB, I was probably one of the guys you talked to. I had on camoflage coveralls and a green coat and my bud had on the blue ice suit. If you were the one that talked with us (Northern accent in a black hut ???), my bud caught one bobo about 20" right after you left. We moved north towards the dock area but landed nothing. Did see a nice fish "look" at my jig but didn't bite. Eventhough we didn't get that great early ice bite, had a great b-day ;)

Fished there with Slayer and his co worker this weekend and it was steady action most of the day. Slayer had a good day. Mine started hot but just one of those days of missing fish and getting broke off.. p-line is crap twice in two trips line snapped and I really can't remember my line every snapping ice fishing,, had a few failed knots but this junk broke both times on the hook set. back to the basic trilene, stren or gama all other lines are crap,, I must of missed 10 plus hits on a kasty but I just don't have the touch setting the hook with those things I'm more of a dead stick specialist ;D

Trout, I use Berkley Fireline with a Berkley Flourocarbon leader or Berkley Vanish on my ice rods. Works good and more invisible than mono line. And jnbfishin4fun that was me. Usually ask anglers if there on the website, but I didn't ask you. I'm orginally from Michigan and alot of people ask me if I'm from Canada!?! Been here since 1988.
