And its not even here yet-officially that is. I don't ice fish anymore-fell thru the ice at 11Mile a couple of winters ago and that was it for me-gave all my ice fishing stuff to a friend. So I look for open water, and tailwater stuff but I'm a warmwater/bass guy thru and thru so I usually take a couple of trips south or go to a power plant lake and mostly just wait for March.

If theres open water I'll fish it but the cold does get old and I get cabin fever pretty bad. Boy, we need a power plant lake in this state!! Sometimes I daydream about how nice it would be to have a hot water discharge on Pueblo with all those wipers, walleye and bass congregating around it. Oh well.

Slayer, not only are you a really good fisherman! But you make a hell of mine sweeper also! LOL.

I must admit I have lost my balls! Now that my sons fish with me I skip early ice. I am so worried about them, I just don't have any fun. I really miss Antero!!!! I used to be able to fish right off the jetty at the boat ramp, maybe five feet from the bank and catch big trout all day long during early ice!

It was Jan of '03. Me and two buddies were walking out on the ice near sucker cove and it was pre-dawn so I couldn't see much. Must have crossed a pressure ridge and down I went. Climbed out of the hole which is something you can't always do because the ice keeps breaking off. Went back to the truck, changed clothes and actually fished that day.

But that was it-last time I went. Like I said, I'm happiest when I'm fishing for bass.

Winter is just beginning! The best fishing of the year is during winter; open water trout on rivers, icefishing for trout, icefishing for lakers, icefishing for perch and crappie are all better this time of year than in other times of years...You can catch pike through the ice, although it is much more difficult. They are still a blast though....
I love winter!

Hey KD-come to 11-mile on the 17th and I guarantee you a good time! No ice baths or anything! Really, no mention of waterboy or porpoise boy or frog boy!

Slayer-Thanks for the offer but.........I'm just not a hardwater guy anymore. I'll either be on Pueblo Res, below the dam there or maybe on the dream stream. Catch one for me.
