Headed for Craig after spending a night in Nichols bay Prince of Wales island we lost the bearing on the port side lower unit and we came in on one motor, the local mechanic who didn't work on Suzuki's just said"Your in a lot of trouble" and sure enough the 2 weeks it took to get parts to and get out of Craig turned out to be the highlight of the trip, what a great place as long as you like liquid sunshine!!
Pineapple rock and Cape Ulitka on Noyes island, King fishing we got a couple nice ones in the 25lb range, then a Sea Lion steals one before we can get it in. Dungies
Our new friends on the Zonta, Commercial Salmon trollers down with engine problems
After installing the new lower unit with updated double roller bearings, changing props, changing the thermostats for cold water type, replacing the Marine charger and servicing we headed for Sitka, So long Kelly,
With Humpback whales serenading us we made our way north.
I wanted to head up the outside of Baronof Island to Sitka but at decision point decided to stay inside and headed up Chatham Straight
Warm hot springs bay.
Next stop Elfin Cove. More rain.
Left Elfin Cove and it was out in the Gulf with some rough weather on the way to Yakutat. Did some catch and release for Kings and silvers at Yakutat bay but a couple committed suicide. We ate fish and Crab most of the way.
I was worried about fuel for the long run to Cordova, couldn't find a fuel tote so picked up a half dozen containers and put them on the roof for reserve.
We lucked out on the weather with a following sea and the tide pushing us we ran all night about 10 miles off the coast at displacement speed to conserve fuel and pointed the autopilot for the shortcut inside Kayak Island
Found the channel at low tide and had to wait a few hours for the the water to come up to get through.
Next shortcut was up Orca Inlet following the stick channel. to Cordova.
