having a get together. Pick a lake and a date and show up so we can see what we all look like? I'd come. We could fish, have a picnic, tell lies. Our wives/girlfriends could talk to each other about our addiction. Don....Ken....is this a good idea? Ed

We kind of had this topic started before and everyone agreed a picnic/potluck or something would be the way to go. I think the majority of the people on this board are in the denver area so it would be logical to have it somewhere around there. I'm not from the denver area but know the lakes can get very packed which might not be to fun fishing so there may want to have it somewhere else. Ed seems to be very familiar with the Colorado waters maybe he could make a suggestion of what lakes could handle a fishing get together, then we could maybe vote on which everyone likes.

Kadiya-Please accept my humble appology. I knew you and Koni were on the board, just forgot. You'll probably outfish us all!!

Regarding a place to have it-I don't really care, as long as its not so crowded that we can't have a decent day on the water. Lets start kicking names around. Ed

I'm with you on the not crowded part, but that kind of eliminates all the metro lakes which would be the most convient.
I'd be willing to travel about 2 hours, but since I'm centrally located in Colorado Springs that could cover most the state. My exception would be Ft. Collins since the only reason it would take more then 2 hours to get there is denver traffic so I'd count Ft. Collins as a place I'd travel to also.
There arent any lakes in the Springs that could hold the event as all of them are very small and very busy.

OK heres the first one, How about Aurora? they have shelters that groups can reserve or rent, I know that some of you with bigger boats might not like this one but we have to start somewhere. do Chatfield or Stanly sound better? Pick a non holiday weekend date and see where it takes us, or have a few different ones thruout the summer for those that can't make it to one only? nothing formal just a get together

What is/are the criteria for lake selection? Relatively close to Denver/Springs, not too far from the west slope, not too crowded, good shore fishing, OK for small and bigger boats, nice area for boat beaching or maybe a raft, good fly fishing near by, camping maybe... Sounds like Dillion to me.

No way I'll be at one. Us westslopers would have to go a long way to a denver area lake, which I'm not going to do. I'm probably going to fish with Ouray anytime soon anyway, which would be the west slope get together, lol.

:D It's cool, I doubt I'll out fish you guys tho since I'm going to try and concentrate on muskie... sooo hard!

I think aurora resevoir has a nice picnic area, so family that comes along that doesn't fish could sit there I guess. Water is pretty nice and clean but we haven't had much luck fishing there, plus I think there's like a 5 buck charge to enter. I agree though a nice uncrowded spot would be nice. Hey maybe we can catch lunch :D

Aurora sounds good except I'd hate for that famous Aurora wind to spoil a good get together.

I love the idea about a clean up. What a great way to keep what we love clean.

What about Barr Lake. While the fishing my not be the best it is water-sporter free and has a nice picnic area too.

My 2 cents.

Wow that's a great idea! Maybe coloradofisherman.com could adopt a local public water area and the members could go every now and then to clean it up, or do that only do that for highways?
