howdy. Does anyone here ever fish at Jackson reservoir? We had heard some good things about it last year so went out there towards the end of the season and it was terrible. The water level was horribly low, you had to wade and wade some more to get your line out very far. I was just wondering if its better earlier on or when is a good time to go there? We went because we heard the wiper and walleye fishing was so good that time of year, and ice fishing in winter too.

I thought the drought had killed it off last year and the did fish salvage operations...and now they have to start over...I could be mistaken...

I could be wrong, but that may be Jumbo that you're talking about. Jumbo (Julesburg Reservoir) had a salvage done a few years ago. People were catching wipers, walleye, catfish and trout.. Now the lake only has some catchable rainbows and catfish.

There wasn't a fish salvage at Jackson last year, the fish are still there. It got very low as it does every year. The best wiper action of the year should be happening before long, they stack up at the inlet every year as the water warms.

My neighbor reports there wax zilcho action out there. He saw someone catch a trout, and he admitted he might have done better if he had taken minnows. This guy knows nearly all the reservoirs between here and half way across Nebraska; so if he says action was slow, it surely must have been.

I caught this fishing report on jackson lake that I thought might be interesting for you guys dated 3-1-05
The inlet has been producing 14"-18" trout using nightcrawlers and shrimp. No further reports for other species; however, we have received word of the possibility of water being added to the reservoir sometime this week which may or may not spur some wiper action in the inlet depending on water flow. Also walleye should begin to spawn when the water reaches 40° but are impossible to catch until about two weeks after they have spawned. Try fishing the area on the dike in front of the white building which is the deepest point of the lake. Also try the fishing jetty located on the north end of Pelican Campground. Nightcrawlers and cut bait are probably the best bait right now since fish are not as active. Fishing will heat up when the water temperature reaches about 50°.
