Went out for some wipers today at Jackson Res. Fished approx. from 06:00 to 10:00. I personally caught 9 total and all were between 15 1/2" and 16", but fat. We didn't even think they were of size and some of the guys released theirs until we dug up a tape measure from the glove box. Lost the last one right before the action slowed down. Well, for me at least. Some of my partners caught em every here and there up til when we left. Caught my 1st 5 between 06:30 and about 07:00. Very light pecks and the hookset had to be timed perfect (kind of awkward for wipers, but it made the fishing interesting). Picked up the other four slowly, one by one as the morning went by. Oh... And I also somehow hooked this giant 20lb carp (we call: yellow wiper ;D) on my lil 6 lb line and fought his arse for about 15 minutes. That was when my buddies were doing very well and rubbed it in my face. As soon as I landed the giant and got my lure back in the water, the action stopped again! Used Rattlin Rapalas, Rat-L-Traps, Kasties and tried jigs w/no cigar. Seemed like they were more into the stuff with metalic shine. The inlet was our spot of choice for today, but it got hella crowded. Not much other people catching fish. Seemed like we were the only ones who caught fish. The park ranger said the dike is doing better, but we didn't have time to try that part. Anyhow, there were six of us license holders. About only 3 of us limited, with me being the exception (9 fish, go figure). The other 3 gave up and slept in order to maintain on the drive home and entertain eachother by slammin on eachother's fishing skills the whole drive home. Overall it was a good morning. B-T-W they were hitting deep and persistance was the game. Water in that inlet is quite dark and stained. Sh*tload of tumbleweeds which got old after a while. The carps moved in and started an underwater dust storm right as the sun felt hot on the skin which killed the bite. I'd tell you all the "so called secret" but it's hidden within this post itself. I know, I'm an a$$... ;D Reason for that is only my good intention: I'd like to see my fellow fishermen step up their game and do some dirty work themselves. Why wait on a report when you can be the one who always reports 1st? Just my two rusty pennies ;D
