Jefferson Lake

Has anyone tried Jefferson through the ice? It's closer to me than Denver and was hoping to try next season if its worthwhile.

Are you allowed to take ATV's to the lake during the winter when the gate is closed? I made the trip once this winter, the hike was alot tougher than we thought it was going to be... we heard 1 mile from the gate (yeah right!), but it was worth it with 15-20 inch lakers.
