The saugeye lake that I have been fishing is warming up like the rest of the water is Colorado. I am seeing lots of largemouth on beds around the lake. I went out and fished tonight in the rain. It was cold and at times there were some snow flurries. I got soaked. I worked a lucky Craft pointer 100 in the bluegill color with intermittent pops and got two largemouth at dusk. They were not on beds. These two fish were just cruising around and one was pretty far off the bank...not really where I’d expect him to be. I was making super long casts and he bit as soon as I started my retrieve out toward the middle of the lake. I was hoping to get a saugeye, too, so I could have at least one of each of the major species in the lake but no luck on the saugeyes. The fish I’ve seen on beds are significantly larger. Hopefully I’ll be able to stick one of the bigger fish soon.
