Fish names are good, but I would stay away from names like "Steelhead" and "Bluegill". Maybe you could get by with their Latin names, like "Esox Lucius" (northern pike). But some get kind of awkward, such as "Ictalurus Punctatus" (channel catfish).

"Evinrude" is better (make sure you spell it right). In fact, if you look at brands of equipment and tackle, you can come up with names that work real well and nobody would think they were strange. Such as "Mitchell" for a boy, or "Berkeley" for a girl.

"Alumacraft" and "Ugly Stik" are kind of poor, though.

Well, I am well out of the baby business, but if I would have the opportunity to name a child with my surname (Wall) I would have to name him or her "Walleye". That would be a name that kind of sings don't you think? "Walleye Wall"

Dan

PS, Fishingkats I would avoid anything with "sucker" in it.

Fishingkats...I think you should trade with your significant other...let her name it if it is a boy and you get to name it if it is a girl...

why?

it is your fairly obvious with your forum handle of fishingkats...the obvious only name for a girl is like the perfume (or the catfish)...Chanel

if it is a boy you could name him Wally (walleye)

or you could name him after the mythical trout Norman Thayer and Billy sought in the movie On Golden Pond..."Walter"...

:-\ That's a tough one.

I thought of: "Blu Kat" for a boy or just "kat" for a girl.

I sure wouldn't name my kid Trout or Bass...Bass is my maiden name...and i was teased all through grade school and high school with names like
"bigmouth Bass"..." B-a-s-s...take off the B and what do you get..."Ass!" It was not fun. I spent a lot of time in the principals office for smaking other kids.

You should start a new thread for the name thing since it kind of hijacked this one.

Have you thought about mythological names like Barkhas god of the Sea or Poseidon or Nereus old man of the sea. There are more than a million possibilities just look around and I am sure you will find what will suit you, your wife and child to be. There are even girls names with "fishy" meaning.

Fishingkats-Off the subject but I see you mentioned Two Buttes-I went down there a few yrs. ago and caught a lot of bass. This is when the lake had water in it-heard it went dry last year or the year before. Anyway, just wondering if it has any water and if it has any fish? There was also a small pond below the dam that I wanted to fish but just didn't have the time. Ed

yes still thinking about a fish name
Fishingkats for your child's sake you should really try to pick a fish name that at least sounds kinda like a human name. My dad thought he had created a whole new name for me when I was born and it turned out it was not only a name that already existed but mainly a boys name, I cannot tell you how crappy of a childhood I had b/c of my name.
Doesn't help that my last name is German too, so when I have to call an airport shuttle or whatever they always expect some 6' tall blond blue eyed German looking dude... and here you see a 5'2" dark haired/eyed Asian girl. I sure wish my mom had spoken up at least!
