I was wondering if there were any local Colorado Springs lakes. I have fished prospect lake before but they drained it last year cause it was "leaking" or something. So I cant fish that anymore. I heard Quail lake was good but beacuse of the drought the city had cut off water supply for it and it recieved alot of fishing pressure because they were going to let it dry up, but with all the snow and rain we had it looks like a healthy body of water now went up there and checked it out a couple weekends ago, tons of geese there and no one else. But those are the only two lakes I know of, are there more? and if so where?

Maybe not quite local but up Pikes Peak are the Catamount lakes...there are three of them...here is what I found...they are a great local place...not too much driving...

23. PIKES PEAK NORTH SLOPE RESERVOIRS: Three reservoirs are found along the Pikes Peak Highway. Although just outside of Colorado Springs, these gorgeous waters boast rainbow and cutthroat trout and occasional brook trout. Exceptional lake trout can also be taken at Crystal Creek and North Catamount. Anglers can use carry-in boats propelled by hand or electric motor and float tubes. Open from May to October, check the Pikes Peak Highway Tollbooth for hours and access charges. Location: From Colorado Springs west of Highway 24 to Cascade, then follow signs for the Pikes Peak Toll Road

Kewl thanks for the info do you know what you have to pay to get upto these lakes by chance and if there is a fee to use the lakes? I know the road up pikes peak is a toll road. Since you mentioned them I was told about them a couple years ago when I moved here but totally forgot about them because I knew I had to pay a toll to get up there.
However, Im not the as poor as I use to be so this isnt that much of an issue anymore. The woman still wont let me spend 20+$ to head up to a local lake for 1 day when I can drive an hour and fish for 5-$ or less.

ePIC-I think its just $5 if you tell them you are going up to fish. A small correction-Crystal doesn't have any lake trout, North and South Catamount do. North Catamount probably has the best fishing and a little bigger fish then the others. Very good in the spring-you can catch a lot of lakers on tubes or grubs, also sus. jerk baits. Most of these are small (14-18") but there are some bigger fish in there. Ed

I use to sneek into the Pikes Peak North Reservoirs and streams as a kid before they became open to the public. Fishing was great back then. I caught tons of brook trout and some nice size Lakers at N. Catamount in early Spring. I haven't fished them in a long time but heard the drought conditions had taken a toll. There are also several reservoirs on the South Slope of Pikes Peak but I do not believe they have ever been opened to the public. Somebody needs to petition the Colorado Springs Gov. to open them up for fishing. They are public property and should be treated as so.

I agree with you OURAY, I was looking at that fishing for fun program where the state gives cities and counties 900,000$ for angling projects like opening lakes. Yet the Colorado Springs Gov. doesnt even seem interested in making an effort in this area. It does look like the Denver and surrounding areas are taking advantage of the programs.

Epic, I grew up in Manitou Springs (colorado Springs) and they are sometimes slow to get with the program. If they dont do something about it local anglers and sportsman need to petition and get it on a ballot measure. Those reservoirs belong to the public!

The kid had school off today so we went down to quail lake to pass the day, didnt get anything but neither did anyone fishing there so I didnt feel to bad. Anyways someone was telling me about another lake by garden of the gods and nevada? peak lake or pike lake or something? Anyone know anything about it? I work nights so I wasnt all there in the head today since I'm noramlly asleep during this time of the day so I didnt retain enough info. But I have driven by that area alot before and never noticed a lake, so any locals fished it tell me where it is?

Well Ouray looks like you and I are going to get along really well. I am fighting to get my local city reservoirs opened to ice fishing and non motorized boating again. We do need to get a ballot measure. Once we do that their is nothing they can do.
In fact, you should PM me sometime, any of you, if your ready to jump on the board to get this thing going. You are right, they are public property and HAVE to be treated as such or else they should all be recalled.

Colorado Springs has 27 reservoirs with only 13 open to the public. They just arbitrarly decide reservoir access regulations. Every lake is public and therefor has to be open to all fishing, including ice fishing and non motorized or electric motor boating.
Ouray and others, I hope to see you all on my site. It's time we get these guys out of here.
What are the 13?

What's the deal with Sinton pond. Is fishing allowed, what kind of fish ect?

Ive heard the hike up to Stanley is a B!&#@.

I few years ago I hiked up to a lake above the town of Palmer Lake. Don't know the name of it but I bet someone here will know. That would get us to 13.

ePic it's just south of the dairy on Sinton Rd. Inbetween the dairy and, I think, the trailor park. if you are facing the dairy look top your right and it's sitting back intp the trees. Never walked back there though because you really can't tell from the road that you are allowed back there.
