Went fishing for catfish last night at Chatfield....sitting and talking quietly for about an hour...no bites, suddenly my line started ripping loudly and I actually had to hold onto my pole as tightly as I could.....it was so strong I actually thought for a second I had hooked a big bird or boat or something on accident, I tried to tighten my drag up some, but couldn't hold the pole at the same time, so handed Brian my pole...telling him bring it in! I don't care if you gotta go swimming or what, just get it in! LOL
He had been standing next to me.... his eyes as big as saucers, telling me to wear it out but reel it in some. He tried to reel it in and was like "Oh my God it has to be HUGE" then suddenly it stopped.
My line was stuck on something down shore...way down to the right of us, so he took a flash light and went in search of where it was. The dang fish wrapped it around a big log, not far off shore. Brian got a stick and ended up pulling the log in, unwrapped my line, and the fish had broke off just my hook
Oh my god the adrenile rush, I have never had a fish make my line tear out like that. I figure it was a cat because we were using chicken livers, but the disappointment after it sank in was even bigger, wishing we could have at least gotten a glimpse of it. Brian said it had been years and years since he heard a line scream like that. We didn't catch anything else, might go back later tonight though.

I feel your pain Night_Shadows. I have had that happen to me a couple of times. Afterwards I wonder, "did I lose the fish of a lifetime because I did not replace my line often enough or should I have retied?"

Hopefully next time......
