see i need to get out more and fish for rainbows more this will be only the 3rd time out for rainbows on ice anyways. i learned to ice fish visiting my grandfather in min. we would go pike spear fishin every year till he passed away a couple years ago then i started here in co. but only fishin for the macks. don't know why i've been stuck fishin for macks cause rainbows in my opinion are so much more fun to catch i just need a little guidence and i think i could figure it out.
thanks guys i'm heading out after work to pick up some gear all i got is laker stuff and it did't work to weel last weekend. if it wasn't for this site a guy could go broke trying to find out what works and what foes not.

Wax worms is the choice for me..... But I just caught a limit on 11-mile this week with meal worms.. Go figure..... I used the meal worms because that is all that was available when I went to the shop... When using a meal worm, I always pinch the end off of it to let it "ooze"....

I think Don is right.....I have had success (or lack of success most trips to the mile) using both...but pretty much just use waxies these days because they are smaller....do you guys pinch the end off waxies or fish them whole? I fish them whole.

I have used both on the same day, many times, it has been strange because all they hit is one. Last time I went I jiged a tub dipped in that salmon roe stuff thats made by Berkley w/o tipping it at all and got ton's of action all day. The meal worm and waxie didnt get touched. But I have had days when if you move your jig at all they wont touch it. It's a crap shoot. Late.

I prefer wax worms, but what sometimes works better than anything is a bit of a plain nightcrawler.
