Do you believe the moon phase affects you fishing? What moon phase do you have the most luck? MIne is the full moon.

My advice-forget it. With everything there is to concern yourself about when fishing-what lure, what depth, what color, what speed and on and on I just think its silly to ever let moon phase get in the way. Go fishing when you can.

The studies I have seen show a slightly better catch rate for large fish on a 3/4 waxing or a 3/4 waning moon and a new moon may be slightly better for numbers but who cares. :-\

Basically, I'll go any time I can. But if I am planning a trip months in advance, to fish a lake or reservoir for a week or so, particularly if the water is ultra-clear, I'll try to plan it to avoid the full moon. I think fish in those super clear lakes tend to feed more at night and less during the day when there is a full moon. For example, I know I have always done better at Lake Powell when I could time a trip to avoid the full moon, and I used to fish Powell a lot.

I have done really good during the full moon this summer but have had lowsy results at the other periods. I was just wondering if people really believed it existed.

infisheman has held for a long time that more and larger fish fall on the full and new moon phases

i wouldnt skip a chance to fish just because the moon aint right but like mentioned above i might consider it when planning a trip in advance

I have an illness that I won't mention because a lot of people believe that some things that couldn't trigger actually do. One of the triggers is the full moon and I hardly sleep during that period so I fish at night during it and do really good. Especially for carp.

I always wondered if the statistics about more people catching fish during a full moon were skewed because more people fish during a full moon. I can see a heck of a lot better during a full moon than I can without one and I would be more apt to go fishing because of that.

Don, I know some one that is thinking about Powell soon, what it like?
Hi Oats-

I haven't been there for about 3 years, but it is one of my favorite places in the world. And September and October are great months to fish it, especially October. Stable Fall weather, little wind, some boils still happening, water temps in the low-mid 70's, bass and walleye turning on. Lots of nice smallmouth any more (up to 3 lbs.) and boat loads of stripers that are averaging 4-7 lbs. this year. Can you tell I'd like to make a Fall trip, too?

If you haven't found it already, check out www.wayneswords.com. It's the site with the best up to date Lake Powell info.

I am with you on that Don...except for walleyes...I think it is definately true for trout and other species...

There is a great article in the Aug/Sept In Fisherman magazine on page 10 about Playing the Solunar Card Right Now...about late month full moons for walleyes...and a new moon at the beginning of Sept for big Muskies...interesting reading...infact after typing all that they actually had access to the article on their website...here you go...

Thanks for the link, zman. It confirms a lot of what I've always heard about full moon fishing for walleyes in September, October and November. I just haven't done enough of it to have any real first hand experience.

TL what I left off part of what Don said...

I have only had luck with walleyes during the full moon period...other species have went in the toilet for me...especially trout at Spinney...I still caught fish but not to the level of other periods during the day...so what I said kind of got mixed up...sorry...
