Fished the Adams County Fairgrounds as planned last night/this morning.  Arrived at around 9:00 p.m. and fished the sandbar.  Was using worms and stinkbait on one pole and shrimp on the other.  Right away I caught a fish which ended up being a sucker.  I thought those were high elevation fish?  Kept him so I can use him for cutbait later.  Then had another bite on the worm and it was this little 6inch cat.  Had several other bites and finally caught a decent cat on the shrimp around midnight.  This is after I missed two huge hits that tore the shrimp up.  After several more bites, I finally caught my cat I have been wanting all my life.  31 inches long, 19 inches around, and between 15 to 17 pounds.  I finally caught a master angler fish!!!  Only took about 3 minutes to land.  Two more huge hits on the shrimp before I called it a night.  Security guard or someone was bugging everyone saying that you can only fish from sunup to sundown but he was cool.  he said that the only reason he was bugging is because of the fair starting up today.  After this Sunday things should be cool again.  Now if I can only catch me a dang muskie.

gotmuskie,

Congrats! I know the feeling -- btw, the Master Angler award (my first also) took less than two weeks to arrive after I sent it in...

Wow nice cat. That looks like a flathead catfish. I don't think that is a channel catfish. Nice catch.

Persistence paid off.

Great job!

NICE!!

I'm votin' for channel because of the forked tail. Sometimes, channels will come up lookin kinda weird, but I'm quite sure that's a channel. If it were to be a flathead, which I doubt, it would be a state record. Let's hope I'm wrong.

Once again, really nice catch!

Pretty sure it's a channel.  forked tail, lower lip does not exceed the top, and it was caught on dead bait.  Flatheads very rarely are caught on dead bait and have a square tail.  yes I did keep it but now I wish I wouldn't have.  I needed a witness to verify the length and wanted to weigh it.  It will not go to waste and if I ever catch another one that big, I will release it.  Here are some more pics.

Ok after seeing it from a different view, it's a channel. [email protected] from the top it looks as ugly as a flathead. It's a nice healthy healthy channel.

Nice cats... I gotta give that place another shot. Goin' again anytime soon?
