I'm going down to Navajo for the 4th. I am going with some buds and I'm pretty sure we will have a boat, but we will want to fish from shore at night too.

I know there are bass in there, but the only fishing I have done around there is fly fishing below the dam. (There are some giant rainbows in there!)

What other species of fish are in there?

Does anybody have any techniques or spots from a boat or shore they are willing to give up?

On a side note, are fireworks allowed?

Thanks a lot!

Fish: Perch, Crappie, Smallmouth Bass, Channel Catfish, Pike, Bluegill.

Fireworks: The possession or discharge of fireworks is prohibited. In all State Parks.

Spots: I never been there, so I dont have any yet. Smallmouth's I would look for rock walls that are deep. Catfish I'd look for big flats with dropoffs, Everything else I'd look for vegatation and cover.
Mustang if I fished from shore I would spend the 5 bucks a day and head for the New Mexico end...rocky shoreline...much easier to fish...can walk the boulders pretty easily...

NAVAJO LAKE: Our best reports this week came from anglers fishing for black bass, crappie and northern pike. Lots of smallmouth and a few good size largemouth bass were taken by anglers using tubes, baby brush hawgs, top water lures and crank baits. Crappie fishing was good up the Pine arm and in La Jara Canyon. Small jigs were the best baits. Anglers using spinners, crank baits and top water lures reported catching several northern pike at north end of the lake. Fishing was fair using worms and small jigs for bluegill. We had no reports on other species
good luck lets hear how you did when you get back

my dad used to go down to farmington a lot, so i would tag along and fish the river, but ive never fished the lake....this lady who works with my dad fished in the bass tourney there while we were on the river and she said 11 pounds won the tourney...i assume she meant a total bag of 11 pounds

epic, even on the new mexico half no fireworks?
Most state parks have fireworks bans, or atleast most the states I've lived in.
