Hey all, got a trip to Wolf Creek/Pagosa Springs area coming up the last week of this month. I've never been down there before and looking forward to seeing it. Trying to research some good fishing holes in that area a few campers might be able to get to without it taking too long. Probably won't have a whole day to devote to it. Anyone have some low-down they would be willing to share?
I spent a few early july weekends at a cabin in the valley just west of Creede (hogback mtn 2008-2010). Fished the tributaries that feed into the rio grande, and caught mostly browns in 10-16" range using spinners. Also ventured north of the town of Creede, some very small streams loaded with 8-10" brookies.
With that, you may consider targeting the San Juan being that it is closer to your home base. The west fork and east fork campgrounds may be worth checking out...
Will be staying in South Fork. That is about 55 miles up the road from Pagosa Springs. Looks like the rivers there are all Gold Medal. Should I try metal of the flail stick? Not sure what kind of hatches happen in those parts this time of year.
