So the Ball and Chain wanted to fish with me today so we decided to stay local. Found a new Front Range Perch Haunt. Got fishing around 1 In the truck by 4.

Ice: 2” give or take. And why do people insist on walking out on the ice to ask me if it’s safe, then when I tell them no, and don’t stand so close to me, they freak out?

Weather: Cold!!! Windy.

Fish caught: Theo (Lady) caught 2 Large Mouth (8-12”) and a grip of Perch. Her biggest was 12”, threw back about 15 smaller perch and kept around 20 for dinner.

Lures: Hali jigs/dropper chain, Jigging rap, both with and without minnows, and plain minnow on slip bobber.

Don’t think I’ve ever kept perch before, but today I was on a killing mission. Tried cleaning a different way I saw on You tube. Not fileting them but ripping their guts out, worked pretty well. Lot more meat to eat vs a normal filet. Yellow perch are good, but I wouldn’t say the bees knees that everyone claims. They were not bad, but not to die for. I like beef or shell fish or sushi. I’ll tell you whats the bee knees is, I bought an Angus Cow in August, corn feed, not the green grass fed crap. Best beef ever. I don’t think he got much exercise either, if I had my way, he would have been chained to the farmers tractor.

Anyway, good day, she managed 3 hours on the ice in the wind (there were some good 30-50mph gusts), without a hut or heater. Want to see what size bass can come from there in the summer.

Now the PORN:

Thanks.

The bakset is an easy way to help keep all the chit I bring with me in one place while in the sled.

The Hali spoons are awesome!! I started ordering just the dropper cahins recently because they have that little rat finkee looking attachment, plus the hook on the spare chains is a little more stout.

the chain under a buckshot is killer. great searching jig, fast to the bottom and pulls them in.....perch eye tipping the jig off course

Nice haul!

can you link me to that vid?...I hate/suck at filleting and have a bunch of trout that need eaten that are just gutted in the freezer. Were you literal saying "ripping their guts out" ?..meaning, "tearing" the flesh to strips and then frying (as the picture might suggest)?
