ePic,

Nice,

Do you have any pictures of Zman?

Zman, let me guess, you put your voodoo Dan in your freezer and sprinkled the curse dust on Ken's boots.

Both worked.

Jay,

It was cold as,,, well it was cold in the morning. No wind when does that happen at Elevenmile?

I fished with littlemac and Don-in-Denver. It was slow, or we were in the wrong spots. Don caught a nice rainbow, I caught two dinky pike.

I got to meet Ken, Dan, and ePic. It was very nice to meet them, and on another note Zman was reported to be a no show.

This is hearsay, not too many fish came through the ice,,, I didn't see many myself, and our leaders were fishless, I also met Jason (from the springs) who had a limit.

Pictures I took I will not try to name everyone for fear of getting things messed up.

Zman was a no-show.  I think he was concerned about the fact hehas been
cursing people and feared for his personal safety.  Or it could be the fact he is currently under the self-imposed NEC (new equipment curse)

I will never doubt when someone tells me they can cut through 12 inches of ice in 20 seconds or less.  Cutthroat was kind enough to demonstrate how easy it is to do especially with his offset handle!  I was impressed.  (however I will stick to my power auger.)

It was cold at 0645 this morning, was much nicer when the sun started to shine.  I heard it was around 12-15 below at that time.  Cold, but very little complaint about the weather.  Nice and calm.

In the afternoon those of us left a Stoll felt the ice move under our feet.  We had been hearing the ice pop and crack since the sun came up but around 1 or so.  It made a huge groan almost like distant rolling thunder and the entire sheet of ice moved.  Everyone felt it and it caused most everyone to look around and see if huge hole had opened up or if a pressure ridge popped up.  It was quite cool!

About 2p or so the wind started to pick up from the south and most of the folks left  started packing.  I should have started a few minutes earlier as my shelter tried to get away.  Luckily I had my foot on the strap so it stayed put.

Dan

Now on to the pics

Thanks epic... my daughter loved the photo.

It was great to meet you all. We had fun.
Mikinaak's count = zero on the ice today, one broke off and got away right in the hole, wet arm to prove it.
Daughter's count = one nice rainbow, picture to prove it!
a few more hooked and thru the hook.

Ter,
I just had to clarify, cause it sounds like I did OK compared to most. It was Justin (from the Springs) that you met. I met so many folks it's hard to remember who's who for me too. It was a fun morning, and it was cool to see that many people out there that I sorta knew. I made my rounds and met several of you. Beerman, thanks for the suggestion, as soon as I cracked open a cold one the fish started biting! I ended up with 2 at 15.9"; 1 at 17"; and 1 at 19". I lost one at the hole that was very nice and missed about as many as I hooked. Most of them came on a olive green lazer. I don't have any pics cause I forgot my camera, then when i got home I was gonna take one but my dig camera took a crap! guess I know what to ask for for Christmas. How did everyone else do? I'll keep an eye out on the fishing reort forum for more reports.
see ya
Justin

Nope just my head firmly cranial inserted...I didnt get home from my company Christmas party until 12:30 am Friday night/Saturday morning...meant to get up at 3:45 but must of hit the snooze on my alarm...didnt get up until 4:08...picked Joe up at around 5am...went through the Springs...stopped at the marina at 7:25...bought two bait pucks (cant find them in Denver)...went to Stoll...went by the first lot...parked in the second lot...talked to someone (didnt catch their name)...were there with little boy said they were part of Colorado Fisherman.com...went out on ice from there didnt see anyone I recognized...so I started looking for a pair of flip up tents...Slayer said he was going to Stoll at 6:30...figured he was the pied piper of this soirée...and begin looking for the pair of flip up tents and trademark shades...he also said he would be straight west of Stoll Mountain campground...so Joe and I back tracked north into the bay out from the first parking lot...since it was straight west of the campground and there were two pop over shelters...I just didnt see anyone I recognized and I didnt see Ken's your vehicle...so I hunkered in the back of that bay...I was there when the ice moved a foot around 2pm...there we just more people on the ice than I figured...I didnt get a chance to look at a map before I left (don't fish Eleven Mile regularly)...Dan pointed out that I must have just went left out of the Marina instead of going left out of th entrance to the Marina...so I must of been a lttle east of you guys...sorry...was really looking forward to this and fishing with some of this sites fellow nut jobs (me included)...so I messed up...sleep deprivation or the lights in my head were on but no one was home...Joe and I had fun...but we could of had more fun had we made it to the right spot...Joe hadnt been to Elevenmile in 18 years so he was just following my misguidedness...I will post a fishing report and the interesting conversation I had with the marina owner...

Hey gang,

We made it up, but didn't get a chance to hook up with the crew. We talked to Larry at the Marina Store as he opened and he said that he fished Rocky Flats last weekend and did very well off the pressure-ridge. He said the best action was happening, on either side of the ridgeline out on the lake.

So this is where we decided to start. We met Tom out there who related he was a board member, so there may have been others who made it out, but didn't fish with the group.

Long story short, we punched holes from the pressure line throughout the morning, working our way towards the shoreline without so much as a bite. I looked down towards Stoll and could see the group. It appeared as though a small city descended on the ice, it was a pretty neat site.

I had one partner (Steve) who had never ice fished in Colorado, so I really wanted to put him on fish. A decision was made to head to Taryall, so off we went.

Once there the bite started, Steve (fist time out) ruled and caught almost all of the fish during the few short hours there. He iced a bunch of bows, and his biggest fish was a 17" brown. Terry landed a splake (I think, white tipped anal and dorsal fin?).

It was an interestingly cool day of fishing, 17 degrees below zero for the a.m., and 14 degrees above, in the afternoon. My partner Terry popped the lid off a bottled Miller, and we watched as the beer literally froze, from top to bottom within 90 seconds. I'd never seen anything like that in my life. Sorry I missed you folks; see you at Granby.

If I take my time, I cut them in about 30 seconds through 12-15" of ice.  I can cut four one right after another, then I don't need to cut anymore for awhile.  I have cut more than 20 holes in 24"+ of ice at Chambers Lake with that same auger.  With a lazer hand auger, I'm even faster - just don't own one right now (cost twice as much as Mora, but aren't twice as good).

too bad, he didn't get the video of me drilling lots of holes with my power drill connected to a 12V motorcycle battery.  I even did it with an 8" hand auger mounted.  Someone remarked it drilled faster than his 10" gas auger (don't remember who), but he was right.

For all you skeptics who lack faith in hand augers and power drills - Take that!   ;D

It clearly doesn't matter how many holes you can drill, or by what method. I didn't get a single bite.
