Power plant lakes

Someone in the other section mentioned sneaking into power plant lakes. This made me wonder, has anyone ever snuck in to fish those power plant lakes in Boulder, near 63rd and Arapahoe. I heard a rumor a few years ago about lunker bass in there. It makes sense, since the year-round warm water would extend the growing season for the fish.

What is the name of that power plant?
I think it's called Valmont Power Plant.
That place has haunted me since i was a kid. well ok, it still haunts me. especially in the winter, i go by there and dream of pulling fish out of its constantly warm and unfreezing waters. Ive talked to people that say they have heard of people that have done it, ive heard there are some huge fish in there that are sometimes netted and used for brood stock. ive heard stories of huge wipers, huge bass, huge catfish, huge crappie...ive heard stories of guys fishing the stream behind the powerplant in the spring, and catching (once again) huge rainbows that run up the creek. perhaps its one of those "urban fishing legends", ive never actually met andyone thats fished it. one fact is though i do know they do patrol it, and it wouldnt surpise me if they patrolled it after dark with night vision. so if you go---not that i in any way, shape, or form support trespassing---wear earth toned colored clothing, and only go on nights with zero moon illumination. and oh yeah...tell me how you did.

The guy that told me about the fish in there was my Limnology professor at CU. I think, with his connections, he may have actually gotten access.

I took Limnology at CU back in the early 90s. Who was your prof.? Dr. Lewis was mine. I learned alot but he was a jerk!  ;D
I actually can't remember the guy's name. That was one of those classes I kinda coasted through. I do know he was very respected in the field, though. Might have been the same guy you had. He definitely had some attitude.
I have a friend who snuck in there in the early 90's said there was huge bass in there.
Probably Lewis. He was chair of the bio dept and relied way to much upon his grad students to grade tests. You would know it was him because he would randomly select people in class and ask them questions about required reading material. He questioned me one time and I said I hadn't gotten that far yet.  :D Whoops!
That's the man! I remember, too, he used to have surprise quizzes if it looked like a few people had skipped class. He WAS a jerk!
limnology? I thought this forum had rules about swearing!

Seriously, what the heck is that?

my mom worked in a power plant in oklhoma right after college, she said the people that worked there were allowed to fish and they had huge hybrid bass and giant cats the guys would noodle for and pull out 50 pounders all year round, i would love to sneak into one of those places, i can still run, haha, im a youngn
Too bad you couldn't use the memory wipe thing from men in black on these dudes.
Ice, Mustang, and Rottal. I figure the 4 of us are going to have to fish it and turn in a report. Rottal, you were in the military (I'm guessing from tank pic), so you can make the plan. Mustang can run, so you can wear normal clothes (while the rest of us our in earth tones) and be the diversion. Ice, you do the men in black thing, and file the report after. I guess I'm stuck doing the fishing.  8) Epic, if you want in, you can be in charge of photos.

Shouldnt I be fishing the other side of the lake so while all the comotion you guys cause they wont notice me pulling in the lunkers?
For the sake of the mission...probably, but I'm still fishing! The report will need a novice's  point of view (That's where I come in  :-[).
A guy I work with used to sneek into Valmont all the time, 'til he got caught. Cost him a sackful og $. He caught some really nice wipers there.
