Well, I was gifted a new Shimano, and I was wondering if I could just spool it up with the line from my old beaten Daiwa, just like I would off of a new spool of line.

Thanks guys.

You could... I wouldn't recommend it though. ???

It is done alot with braided line I guess folks wanting to get the other end of the spool we but personally I wont leave line to chance. Generally spend $$$ on line more than tackle(and my tackle spending is a little bit less than under control).

yep, i've done it with braid and it works because the line has basically zero memory. however, i would never recommend this for mono or flouro.

I suppose it would be possible to transfer line from one spool to another, but I have never done it and probably never will. In fact, the idea has never even occurred to me in about a hundred years of fishing.

To me, fishing line has always been considered to be disposable.

Thanks guys. Just hoping to save a few bucks. I'm disabled and on a VERY fixed income. Off to the store again!

Scott,
Is this the line that you just bought last week? If it is I don't see any problem respooling it on to another reel, just make sure that it is going on the new reel the same direction that it came off the old one.

Yeah, it's the line that I just bought last week. Too bad I didn't see this earlier, I already picked up some more. Maybe I'll just hold onto it and keep it as spare and use the line from the other reel that I just put on. Thanks.

I've done it a pinch when no other line is available; but only as a last ditch effort to keep fishing. These days, I buy daiwa reels with 2 spools, keep them full AND keep a fresh box of line in my bag. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it IME.
