Hey guys. It's been a while since I've posted here. My trip to pyramid lake is officially happening. I'll be in Nevada from the 2nd to the 7th. I was wondering if you guys could recommend some flies for me. I'm trying to get a list together of what I need to tie and get ready for the trip. One technique that I know is popular there involves fishing floating flies with a sinking line. One floating fly in particular is the popcorn beetle. Never really seen or heard of anyone using this method here but it's certainly popular there. Don't know if I'll have the money to get a sinking line, though. Maybe I can get a shooting head, instead so I can try a bunch of different methods. I know the basic hanging of nymphs/chiros is tried and true there as well so I'll be sure to bring lots of standard stuff like red and black chiros, copper johns, etc. Any input on flies or anything for that matter would be appreciated. Gonna try and take some video and pics while I'm there so hopefully I'll have a decent report. I know the truckee River feeds into pyramid so I might try that as well.

Find a buddy and book a PFC trip for a day - very reasonable and may make the rest of your trip a success. A tube or toon would be an advantage.. GL

I'm going to vegas to visit family. This is just a big detour. But Why wouldn't I? I get to fish for a subspecies that exists in only one fishery in the world. It's new water to me and I'm on break from school for a month. Plus my aunt has some friends that fish it all the time and live like fifteen minutes from the lake. I get to stay at their place and hopefully fish with them. Not to mention there is a possibility of a 20+ pound cutthroat. Im expecting the worst and hoping for the best. Gonna be an adventure regardless as far as I'm concerned.

9wt for sinking. 6wt for floating

You could always use a Rio VersiLeader with a floating line to cheat it a little. Not ideal, but it might work for the application you are looking for.

I got three different versileaders if you want to borrow them for the trip. With a whole month off and going to vegas you will need to save your beer money.
