I had to fly out to north of L.A. yesterday. While flying over, I noticed that almost all of the high mountain lakes appeared to be completely ice free. I saw a couple that look to have some partial ice and one small lake surrounded by trees that looked to be mostly/completely frozen. I was going to try one this weekend but work took over. Doesn't look like I missed anything. I have a new lake I might try to get on when I come back next weekend since my usual spots will likely still be open based on what I saw.

Sorry to hear you didn't break last year's early ice record - but you still have a chance next weekend to find October ice, which ain't too shabby. :)
