If you remember I complained to the State Parks about how their Rangers treated me.  Here's the post http://www.coloradofisherman.com/forum/index.php?topic=2251.msg20819#msg20819

Well here is there response.

Take notice how Lyle completely avoids the fact that the Rangers told me to let the guy go first so there wouldn't be a fight, which I stated in my email was a threat of violence.

If you read paragraph two of the letter it is a complete false account of the incident.
-There wasn't anybody taking a boat out at the time
-I didn't cut in front of anybody let alone two others; I can't cut in front of anybody with a crew cab long bed truck (physically impossible)
-The other guy that they also told, whom was in front of me on the ramp, was as upset as I was about how the Rangers were acting and that they let this other guy do the cutting.

I'm definitely not one to preach about integrity after the way I talk on message boards, but at my job it is a completely different situation.   In public service it is essential that you tell the truth even if you were wrong or made a mistake.

If I take what is in paragraph two as what the Rangers told their superiors, they flat out lied.  That is apalling and unacceptable.

I know it didn't happen to you, but give me your thoughts on what (if anything) I should do next.

Could you make it a bit bigger? I can't seem to read it.

I am quite curious to read this. :)

I have a hard time letting things go when it comes to the government, so I sent the following to Governor Owens:

Attached is a jpeg scanning of the response letter I received from Lyle Laverty, Director of Colorado State Parks.

I'm really disturbed that he did not address the threat of violence by their park rangers at Barr Lake.

I am also very disappointed that the park rangers did not tell the truth about the incident at the ramp.

I am not able to locate the other person that was at the ramp that was subjected to the same treatment as myself. At the time, we discussed what was happening and had the same feelings. If I can locate the individual, my story would be corroborated.

I will not return to Barr Lake in the future as my family and I feel our safety would be in jeopardy due to the lack of integrity of the park rangers. I shouldn't feel this way and I have been wronged.

Thanks for listening,

Eric Ewing

I responded to the Governors reply when I forwarded the message to them. It's all tight.

Now if I can just find the guy that has KAT FISHING on the back of his little aluminum boat. He was pretty torqued about being bumped off the ramp too.

Nothing pushes my buttons faster than injustice.

Eric-Be sure and post whatever response you get. This incident is always going to be your word against theirs and since the rangers have decided to lie about it (I'm assuming you're telling the truth) they have to continue with their lie or they're really in trouble. A little power and authority can do strange things to some people. Its possible they knew the guy at the ramp that they let go ahead of you, in fact, its probable. Ed

Ken,
I was not tracking that post over the last day or so but from what I recall, there was alot of support for Eric and alot of (me included) requests that the "whinning comment maker" recant his post.

Specifically, what took that post out of hand? Was it all the support Eric got or was it how the "whinning comment maker" was being hammered?

I think Gov. Owens office will kick it back downstairs to CO State Parks BUT, coming from the governors office it just may get the powers to be at the state parks office to wonder if they are getting the complete story from the rangers in question. Because if you're in the wrong, you don't take your case all the way to the governors office-that alone should add some credibility to Eric's side of events. So I think taking his case to Owens was a very good move. Ed

Im a big dude and if I dont shave all the time I look like a mean biker ....Im just like all guys I get tired of shaving and sometimes I rock a long beard....I cant tell you how many times ive had police treat me wrong phyisically (i cant spell) and verbally ....I did nothing wrong Its just the little dudes in blue know they have the right to do what they want and they abuse it to fill thier ego's ....my point is what happend sucks . Ericco voiced his opinion and did everything he could, and I think that is great . Its also unfortunate that his one letter is going to be taken lightly by everyone he sends it to ....also sad but true . Its pretty sad that Those rangers will continue to do things that way until 100 people write the same letter ericco did to maybe grab some attention ...or worse yet someone gets hurt for these bonehead rangers get fired .....didnt some dude die last year out at barr in a conoe (not saying anything about the rangers) but I think someon drownd last year ....sorry i cant spell and it was so long

First off, this is not taking the rangers' side if they were acting rudely, but...
Everyone has to understand that for all of Barr Lake there are two, maybe three rangers on duty at any one time. At most lakes in the Denver area there's one or none. And in that duty they are responsible for a gamut of things from game law infractions down to habitat restoration and general upkeep. While that doesn't give them the right to treat anyone the way you said they treated you, I think we all should give them the benefit of the doubt and maybe give them a little more leeway than we do. I've had two very good experiences with local rangers lately, both at Quincy:
One, a younger kid had accidently hooked a duck with a Super Spook, the kid was pretty upset (the duck wasn't exactly thrilled) , myself and the ranger (female), and another guy who came a little later (thanks for the help whoever you were) got the hook out of the duck's wing without hurting the duck any more than it already was. She was polite and professional and din't give the kid any more grief than he already had. Then I realized i forgot my water and she gave me some of hers. Nice lady all in all.
And at Barr Lake two of the rangers helped me put my kayak back on my car, not that I can't do it myself, but hey, a little help is always good when you've been paddling all day.
I guess my point is that like alot of people, most of these guys are overworked and underpaid. From my experience with them, they try to run the parks to the best of their ability, so if they hurt anybody's feelings or come off a littel terse sometime, please give them a littel slack.

i think that we need to realize how much work some of the dow do and we need to take that into consideration when we have problems with one or more

some times they make misstakes and do take it out on the wrong people
