I found quite a few nice sized smallies on the river, how do they act during pre spawn? Will they move up river? Down? Any tips would be nice. Also if you live in pueblo, shoot me a pm and we'll go slay them tomorrow morning, around 10-11

I used to do a lot of river/creek fishing for smallmouth where I grew up in western NY. Look for prespawn smallies to leave the deepest holes and move into shallower slack water areas when the water gets into the low to mid 50's. They're looking for shallow eddy areas so the current will not scatter their fry. Personally, this has been a tough pattern to fish in CO since most rivers are controlled by dams. What can be slack water one day, may be a torrent the next....due to a dam operator. Plus, up in the Denver area, there isn't a whole lot of smallie river action. Good luck.
