Me and a few of my friends are going down to the Great Sand Dunes in July. Are there any good spots down there to go fishing. Ive never been down that far. Please help.
Thanks for letting me know whats out there.. Down there in Trinidad Res. do they stock wiper out in there. How s the Large Mouth Bass down there. I'll be up there for a week so I'll have plenty of time to look around the streams and ponds/res down there.
You can take Medano Pass from the sand dunes over into Westcliffe. You can fish lake DeWeese. There have been some nice small mouth pulled out of there this year. Just about any 4X4 can make it over Medano Pass, its an easy trail, lots of water crossings, sand, rocks. Lots of fun also.
I'm suppose to go down the the sand dunes to do a photo shoot once the jeep is out of the shop... You guys have just convinced me to take the fishing equipment with me.
My friend has a cabin up in those mountains to the west of the dunes. We went up to almost every large mountain lake we could find. Didn't do to well but the drive up there was GREAT.Good luck
Carp.. well im not the best fan of carp but a fight is a fight. Know what I mean. But i'll check out the news THANKs. A story read will always be a story told. Thanks for the luck I think i'll need it .. But i'll make sure to take pictures and post em.
If your going to the sand dunes, you might stop by mountain home lake.Havent been there this year but I hear the lake is up and the boat ramp is open.Smith resevoir is also nearby and the freahwater shrimp make the trout grow fast and big. [usually 3 to 5 ld range]I live in Trinidad and we do have wipers but they arnt very abundant.Ive caught 2 this year, one 3ld and 1 4ld.Had a report of a 9lb but didnt see it for myself.Walleye fishing has been fair but the water is just starting to clear up so it should get better.Caught a 11 1/2 ld a couple of years ago but usually they are from 1 lb to 3 lb.Caught 22 trout ranging from 16 to 20in yesterday near the west end[cokedale area]Hopefully its clearing up and the fishing will get better.Fished martin once so far,for pike mostly.Caught 2 small ones. This place will be good pretty soon for pike. The 4 wheel trail over Medano is cool.Theres also browns in the little streams nearby. You have to approach stealthy as not to spook them.Good luck.
Thanks for the LUCK. I think im gonna need it. We're suppose to go see the Dunes because my friends GF wants to check that out first so we'll be there the first few nights and then off to some fishing. Are you catching the trout on shrimp or just the regular power bait stuff. I love chasing the little trouts up and down the rivers. Thats what we do up here every year in mid-July, but man BUGS BUGS BUGS.. Thanks again for the report. I'll check out some of those places. My trips in July so a lot of planning to do. THANKS..!
BE CAREFUL, i just got back from white sands in NM and broke my elbow and damaged nerves in my arm. Thats what happens when a bigger person lands on you after you jump off a dune.
