Something for y'all to think about...

For those who believe in C.P.R. (Catch-Photo-Release) here's something to think about. Did you ever want to release a lunker so it can still be making big babies, but still come away with just a bit more than a trophy for a memento? Check these guys out.

I've used these guys for freshwater fish:

http://www.laxreproductions.com/

and they do an excellent job. I have a replica of a 36" musky I caught last year. It was not huge by musky standards, but it was my first one and I wanted me and my boy to remember it...
Work2fish,

That sounds like an awesome trophy What was your tackle to catch that MEMORY?
Nawanda,

I was using a 4 3/4" gray & white (grey ghost) Reef Runner Deep Diver. Here is a picture of them from the Cabela's web catalog.

I caught it in Minnesota (Lake Miltona) on an overcast day in July last year just outside the weedline.

And, as I said, there are much bigger Muskies up there but it was a blast anyway. Later today, I'll attempt to upload a picture of the replica mount itself over this slower link I'm using right now...
OK, here is a picture of the replica mount from Lax Taxidermy. I like how they reproduced the scars on the fish (top fin, gill and the bite mark in the middle). This was at my request and could have been declined if you wished. They used 3 digital photos I sent them and length and girth measurements.

Not bad...
Work2fish,

Okay, I get it now! The more photos you take can really help these outfits make a good duplicate of your catch. How cool. I've seen those ReefRunners around. They look like something we should try.

That's a nice mount too, looking really good over the mantle. It's neat that you've used an outfit different from those two I found, which are the only ones I knew about. Hope they don't charge...too much you know. :D
Price is just about the biggest drawback -- about $11-12/inch and that is for a single sided mount (my fish has only one eye ;) ). I understand that good skin mounts are not too much cheaper, but I've never had one of those and so I don't know for sure...
Oh, and I've heard of a couple of other companies:

Fibertech: http://www.fibertechproductions.com/ and Artistic Anglers (can't find their website, but the phone # is (218) 721-4900). There is another one whose name escapes me but it was a local Colorado business who did many of the mounts for the Sportsman's Warehouse in Thornton...
Work2Fish,

Have you ever seen the nice taxidermy down at "El Tejado" Mexican Restaurant on South Broadway in Denver ??....They're about 2600 South Broadway on the West side of the Street. Great food, and great mounts up on the walls.

Thanks for turning us on to these guys. I have no doubt that someone here will be wanting some this year.
The food there is pretty good, but not as good as at La Cocinita, 29th Ave just west of Sheridan, El Jardin in Commerce City and los Fondos at Simms and about 1st.

But how are their fish mounts? ;D

Thanks guys, I am always looking for some good restaurants and I know there are some very good ones nearby...
Oh yeah, that was the topic, wasn't it?
PescadoLoco

;D Yeah, whaddya think we go there for? The Food? LOL

Nope. It's to look at the fishies.

BUT: Thanks for the tips about the great restaurants anyway. I'll go there an lobby them to install some poper decor. :D
Maybe we should tell the restaurant owners to "sponsor" us. We get paid to go catch them a wall trophy!

Yeahh... Discount or free meals for trophies sounds like a plan.
Pescado Loco,

You know, you really do have a great idea there. :D
If I don't have the camera readily available I will release any fish. I would rather release a big fish without a picture than kill it by handling it too much just to get a photo.
