Anybody hear how much ice is left on it?
And when it opens, is there another crazy person like me that wants to go super early on the opener to get a good spot in the line at the gate with me? I am thinking about calling in sick that day and going early.

Ive called in sick many times to hit spinney opening day!I do it a little differently though,I park up at the inlet area and walk into the backside its about a 5mile walk,but you can beat everybody to the draw!

Opening day is always a crap shoot? Sometimes it is great, sometimes it sucks? I usually wait till it has been open for a week or so to avoid the huge crowd. Thats why I spend so much time up there in October and November, everyone is hunting and the fishing is incredible.

I would guess around April 15th for opening day ???

One nice thing you can always walk away from the crowds on the back side or out on the dam...

Anybody no if the little feeder creek runs anymore at spinney, the one on the south east side by the ranger boat slip. Use to slam the big bows in that thing early spring

Forget the lake go to the river below the dam. Jumbo trout below the dam at that time of year.

I have been fishing below Spinney the last three weekends and have caught some nice trout, but I am ready for stillwater!!!

I have called in sick at least 5 times to fish the opener at Spinney...this year I may have a new problem...I have a new job and boss...we have fished together for many years...a decade or so ago at another job we called in sick together to fish the opener at Spinney...he will know about it this year so I am not sure what I am gonna do...

If you used to do this with him in the past, just go up to him and say, "come on man, we used to do this, lets go to Spinney for the opener, it's a tradition!" I bet he understands.

As of March 20, 2005 there were areas of the reservoir with ice as thick as 20 inches. The website will be updated frequently as conditions change. Due to a large call for water from the City of Aurora, the water levels at Spinney are currently dropping. Only hand-carried vessels will be allowed to launch when the park opens for the season.
