Got myself a new reel for trolling and decided to get some lead core and spool it on my old reel.

I went to the store today and got some more lead core to replace the first batch.

Does anyone have any suggestions on getting it on the reel? I got the first spool on, but it was so loose that it wasn't worth the trouble (I saw nothing but a rat's nest involved). Do I need someone to hold the spool tight while I reel it in? Do I put it on and then wait until I can get it behind the boat and put a heavy weight on it and that will tighten it up? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's a fairly big bait caster ( I think ) Its pretty big, has a line counter it. I only use it for trolling.

Just keep some tension on the line while you're loading the reel.
Leadcore is about the easiest line there is to load up.

Have to agree with beerman on this. Keep the line under tension and there should be no problems.

Take the reel and line to a pro shop and have them do it. Spooling line is very complicated.

if it is spinning on your spool put a little mono on for backing and then attach leadcore to mono.
