Here is my report - we stopped by Swanson for a few casfs before heading to our hotel to check in. We drove across the damn to the swim beach and walked a ways out on the dam. The water was a little murky, but still about 2' visibilty. Temp, low 70s. First cast i thought i had one of the many carp cruising the dam. In our haste, we forgot to get the day pass for swanson. As i hooked up, the ranger asked if that was my truck without he park pass. He told me to land the fish first then we could deal with the other issue. I had a lot of trouble gaining on the fish, it wasn't a carp. As soon as it made one of it many surfaces, we saw it was a cat. I finally got it to the bank and the ranger helped me grab it. He was impressed with my 35" channel cat. The nice guy even took the pucture of me holding the cat. He then escorted us back to the truck to give us a warning and make us buy an anual pass in in leu of a ticket.
Later we went to red willow. Lots of white bass, crappie, walleye (shorties), and a couple wiper.
Next morning we hit swanson. Fished the west end, in the willow reeds. The water in the shallows was 78, visibility was about 4'.The white bass, large mouths, and crappie were non stop. I landed at least 50 that day.
On our way home, we hit rock creek for a few hours. Awesome little lake, out of the way, but worth the drive. The large mouth bite was solid, hitting crank baits as soon as they hit the water.
Will post pics soon.
