I have developed some guidelines on selecting trees. Water less than 20' deep, forget it. Wind sheltered, good. Close-ish to bank, good. Too close to bank--forget it. Sometimes they defy these guidelines. When they don't cooperate, or aren't there, time to change species. There are some nice looking trees in the Turkey Creek but I haven't ever found a good group of slabs there. Don't know why, it seems really fishy looking back there.
