Went and chucked some line at Prospect today. Caught one styrofoam plate, one tangle of fishing line and one duck tangle up in fishing line and dead. Got some good feathers for fly tying...... Closest place to fish from home, but what a **** hole.:-\

I kept one fish from there. It's stomach was full of a big wad of sythetic fibers and powerbait, with a few midges.... Didn't even feel comfortable feeding it to the dogs.

I have fished Quail lake. I actually caught a pretty respectable bass out of there a couple of years ago. Other than that just sad stockers. Iwill head over there next time. Thanks for the tip on open water. I haven't been over to willow spring yet. Have to check that out as well.

Saw a 27 inch rainbow pulled out of Quail Lake...my friend caught a 23 inch rainbow there, and I've caught a few 15 - 18 inchers. Lot of variety in that small lake...of course, right now there's a lot of goose droppings there as well, as they are congregating on the ice around the open water.

For someone wanting to just wet a line and not expect too much in the way of size all three in the Springs area "lakes" have lots of stockers and smaller panfish with the occasional surprise holdover or old catfish. Quail and Willow had decent size Pike at one time, but I haven't heard of anything over 30" in a long time. Prospect & Willow even have some saugeye.

For those who don't want to drive or can't afford it, it beats a a kick in the pants or sitting at home. I too have caught a few decent sized trout from Quail a few years ago. Personally, I just wouldn't eat anything out of any of them due to the amount of garbage, goose droppings and other unmentionable items that have been found in them over the years.

Also, if you have access to USAFA, there are several fishing ponds there. I used to love hiking the Stanley Canyon trail and fishing Stanley Reservoir. Wonder if it will reopen for fishing, since they drained it a while back for dam repairs.

Ok after seeing the map I know where thats located. I was not aware that was the name of it. Another lake to try would be the one of garden of gods just west of Nevada
Are you talking about pikeview res? Next to the water treatment plant? I have stalked the carp there off and on for the last few years. Hooked one that snapped my 5 wt. Happy to say that TFO lives up to their warranty promise. had the rod back in about a week and 1/2. It does have some big carp and gold fish in there.

Does anyone know if monument reservoir has open water? I know it has bobbo's, bluegills and smallmouth. Heard that it is supposed to have perch and cats. I might even head up there with the spinning gear if I can get some perch out of it. That reservoir seems to be pretty clean compared to the ones in C springs.

I have to correct myself on an earlier comment. Pikeview and Prospect have the saugeye.
Willow is right near Ft. Carson gate 20 and has some large cats and misc panfish, bass and stockers in it as well as some huge carp too.

Just be careful eating out anything out of there also. The aerators were put in there years ago due to a leakage from Slage Lock (spelling??) so I wouldn't be surprised to see three eyed fish-LMAO.

It used to have some huge brooders, but I haven't fished it since they put in the aerators.
