Me and Todd hit e-mile at 7am.Started @Lazy Boy and nada.Decided to hit sucker cove, some people to the left, saw a guy net a bobo ,19-20" or so.Went around to the right about 1/2 mile and set up.Typical modus operandi is throw out a sac on bottom ,toss lures on other rod.Had a take on sac,set hook, felt good, then lost it.Switched lure to sac and started working it on bottom.Caught a 13' bo,then caught a 26" bo around 7lbs.Took hook out of upper lip and was holding for picture when it got pissed at me and went back from where it came!Oh well! Kept workin sac and caught another 13" bo.After a couple hours switched back to gold bouyant and on first cast got hammered. It took two long, screaming runs to the right,I was starting to gain some line back when he surfaced about 50 ft. away-easily a double digit bo!Suddenly something felt funny and at that instant todd yells "your other rod!"I suddenly realize theres a tangle going down and in another split-second the fish is gone.Oh woe is me!!Such are the trials and tribulations of south park. Jeez there is big fish in there!I love this place.Later-

Boy Slayer, I got that sinking feeling just reading your post. That's the thing about 11-mile, ya never know when that big-boy is going to hit. Was there still decent ice where you were or was it iffy. Did ya have to do any "wading" this time?. At least you got the old heart a pumping a couple of times!

That was pretty good writing Slayer. You had me captured. I wish I could have been there. I hate those sinking moments but I 'm glad you had fun. I'ts been a while since I have fished that lake. One of these days I'm going to make the drive. Gas prices aren't helping. Thanks to you and Johnny for bringing me over to this site.

SLAYERFISH -- Do you make your own spawn sacs or buy them.
If you make them -- do you have some pointers?
Thanks

The store-bought ones are junk-might as well buy powerbait,it'll work better.I used to use a needle and thread but now I buy the ready-cut squares and tie em using the Atlas "magic thread".Much faster. When I tie up my sacs I put them in old salmon egg jars, you can fit from 15-25 depending on the size you tie.If I have a lot of roe I tie larger ones and vice-versa if I dont.

Hey dan,Ill try and post one tomorrow.Been buying my stuff at sportsmans lately, orange, red or pink colored netting works equally well.Of course, the hardest part is catching bos or cuttys with eggs in 'em!You need to target areas with spawning fish,I got some nice eggs at aurora a few weeks ago,got a few ice fishin at e-mile,got a bunch in wyoming at alcova last spring.Ive gotten some up in waterton canyon.

Personally I like to use borax instead of netting. To me it works well because you can cut off the size of piece you want. Slayerfish definitely has more egg sack experience than I do though, so I'd listen to him. My solution is just another one to throw out there. BTW slayerfish, do you get pike this time of year at elevenmile or just trout?

Hey tfb,Ive NEVER caught a pike fishing off the shore there. If the trout are picky, they dont like the borax ones as well, and at 11-mile they are picky!

Gas in Woodland Park is 2.15$ a gallon, I stopped there on my way home from 4wding today. I couldnt believe how deep the snow was still up there, fun times!

Great story Slayer! That is the worst feeling in the world, when you know you are going to lose a big fish

I have caught hundreds of Pike in the 20 odd years of fishing the Mile. This time of year they stage off rocky area at the entrance's of spawning bays. The bays on the North side of the lake is where i catch most of my pike.
