Thinking on upgrading my vex this year, I have the fl-12. Brother us a hummingbird ice 35 I think maybe the 55, and other brother just upgraded to marcum lx-6. I like my 12 but am kind of liking the bottom zoom on the newer models. We mainly fish lakers in granby but we usually only got out once or twice a year. Now that I have upgraded my job I have more freedom and can get out more. It's nice owning a company and being able to set your own hours. In the winter especially mid February through March I'm very very slow so instead of sitting around and waiting for clients I'd like to get out and fish more again. I can catch fish with my 12 and do pretty well just not sure if it's worth upgrading just to have the bottom zoom. I was thinking the fl-20, I figure I can just buy the head unit and use the battery and ducer from my 12 which cuts the cost down about $150. What's everyone's opinions worth upgrading or should I just stick it out with the 12. Are there many other advantages vs the bottom zoom? I'm also thinking of getting a different ducer for my 12 with less of a degree to go more straight down the hole. My biggest problem is I'll drop and in some spots the ducer degree is so big I lose the bottom few feet from drop offs and stuff. My other option I've been thinking is taking the lowrance mark 5x pro out of my boat and using it on the ice. It has a flasher mode but the graphing part may be helpful as well. That's gonna cost roughly $150 for that.
