Thinking on upgrading my vex this year, I have the fl-12. Brother us a hummingbird ice 35 I think maybe the 55, and other brother just upgraded to marcum lx-6. I like my 12 but am kind of liking the bottom zoom on the newer models. We mainly fish lakers in granby but we usually only got out once or twice a year. Now that I have upgraded my job I have more freedom and can get out more. It's nice owning a company and being able to set your own hours. In the winter especially mid February through March I'm very very slow so instead of sitting around and waiting for clients I'd like to get out and fish more again. I can catch fish with my 12 and do pretty well just not sure if it's worth upgrading just to have the bottom zoom. I was thinking the fl-20, I figure I can just buy the head unit and use the battery and ducer from my 12 which cuts the cost down about $150. What's everyone's opinions worth upgrading or should I just stick it out with the 12. Are there many other advantages vs the bottom zoom? I'm also thinking of getting a different ducer for my 12 with less of a degree to go more straight down the hole. My biggest problem is I'll drop and in some spots the ducer degree is so big I lose the bottom few feet from drop offs and stuff. My other option I've been thinking is taking the lowrance mark 5x pro out of my boat and using it on the ice. It has a flasher mode but the graphing part may be helpful as well. That's gonna cost roughly $150 for that.

F$&k discretion. I'd just laugh my ass off while I'm smashing the ****. Especially if it was Slayers unit. He doesn't need electronics to catch fish. He just waits for someone else to find them and then HOWDY!!!! LMFAO.

LMFAO! You win the rock-paper-scissors = hammer-snips-blanket party game!!!

BTW I second the Vex FL-18 if you can't afford the FLX-28!

Dude, use your Lowrance... Cost is about $125 with a sweet, long lasting battery, and once you see fish behavior on the lowrance, you will wonder why you hadn't changed earlier. Here's a write up I did on how to do it. I still use this set up and don't see myself changing, especially for lakers.

That's OK Mikey, they don't interfere with my new FLX-28(Cadillac)! Come on by anytime! :biggrin1:

I'm really anxious to figure out mine. I'm still gonna keep my fl 18 vex though.

I just fish naked, keeps everyone at a pretty good distance away from me. Whether they're marcum, vex, or hummingbird guys. Plus the glare from my white ass usually puts a bad glare on their screen anyways.
