Don't know thats its actually started yet-they were going to start it early this year because of the weather but this recent cold snap may have moved it back some. Ed

Yeah, it started.

I went out with em' on Wednesday. To Cherry Creek. That was one of the neatest things I've ever got to experience. Confidence booster, too!! It was a real "eye" opener. Haha, get it?

Ok, you probably thought that was a lame joke. Poor Friday humor, I know.

But back to the subject of the spawn. There were quite a few in the gill nets. More males than females. Either way, all were keeper size. And some bigger than I've ever seen in person. Let's just say........... "double digit" ;)

"Has anyone heard how the egg take is going?"

"I read somewhere that they need 25,000 less eggs this year because of the half dozen or so lakes that went dry last year?"

The DOW started their walleye spawn operation on Monday (Mar 14) and is expected to go a few weeks. As most of you know, this operation is critical to the DOW. Not only does it help the walleye fishing in Colorado, it also helps other game fish in Colorado. They use the eggs to trade for other game fish around the country (i.e. catfish, cutthroat trout, etc). The goal for this year is 80 million eggs. They are doing spawning operations at three lakes. The lakes are Pueblo, Chatfield and Cherry Creek. Right now they are collecting about million eggs at each lake per day. In the next week or two the spawn should really get going. I have not heard about the DOW not needing 25,000 less eggs, in fact 25,000 is probably less than the counting error when dealing with 80M.
