I went to horse tooth last june and caught a walleye on accident. I would love to catch more! What is the best lures and bait to use and what is the best way to present them?

Horsetooth should start producing a good number of legal (18" or better) fish this year.

As to best lures, baits and methods, that varies by lakes, times of yearand weather conditions
to name a few of the variables. Your best bet is to visit this site on a regular basis and tune in
to what is working at the lake you are planning to fish.

walleyes are fun fish to catch. however after a brief struggle, fish tends to stiffen up and pulled out without much resistance. you don't have to go far to catch quality walleyes. go to the spillway at chatfield during early spring when they drain excess water. tie a small to medium sized hook to the line directly. leave about foot and a half of leader line and attach 2-3 split shot sinkers. then attach a whole nightcrawler to the hook (leave the tail end loose off the hook). now cast into the current of the draining spillway. the current will take the bait and will tighten up the line by itself. watch for hits. they are usually quick and small movements.

setup (llustration)

line (to pole) Split shot sinker<--------foot and a half----->hook
