When do you guys think the walleyes will start feeding more aggressively? My uncle tells me that they hit in mid March to early April like sunfish sometimes. He tells me that sometimes, you'll even do better from shore than from boat.

He's a believer of Big Mac and Boulder Reservoir. Sometimes he'll not even take the boat to these lakes. He uses nothing but curly tail jigs and rapalas and usually has a blast.

What are your thoughts my fellow ColoradoFisherman.com members?

I personally feel the best fishing for walleye is May-June but you will notice all fisherman have their own favorite times to fish ceratin species. The lake you are actually fishing also determines when its better to fish for them.

Two weeks after they spawn they start hitting hard. They don't all come on at the same time since some spawn earlier than others. Start looking for it as soon as the water temp hits the low to mid 50's

Down at Pueblo Res. water temp is 39 and the walleyes are deep-spooning is still the way to go. They are coming up during low light times but I think its a little early. Once water temp gets into low 40's, it should really improve. I've been catching some shallow with sus. jerks but its a hit or miss deal-there in the shallows one day and gone the next. Ed

Thanks guys.....

For about a month now since my last huntin' trip, I've been litterally dreaming about catching walleye along with other fish almost every night. Hehe, and there will be the occasional girl dream ::) but lately all I've been thinking about is fishing! Walleye in particular.

Just picked up a little used 12 ft boat and I've been wanting to go explore the walleye world. I want to go out and explore badly!!

Last year was the year of the walleye for me. Well actually, the year that I actually went out and targetted walleye from shore and caught a few. I'm hoping this year will be my "year of the walleye!"

I have found they hit the best right after ice off. When I go to Canada fishing for them we try to hit it the first weekend that the ice is off.

In my opinion, the best walleye fishing is in May and June. The best times for trophy fish are before the spawn (spawning usually starts in March here in Colorado) and in the fall as the fish fatten up for the long winter. Throwing large jerkbaits like Husky Jerks and Rogues towards rip rap areas is a great technique for big walleyes in both of these trophy periods.
