went out to quincy yesterday after work. thought it would be a good day but the rangers quickly proved me wrong. right after i bought my pass i ran into a ranger. i asked him if he knew anything about where they were biting and on what. after giving very little info he asked me to open my tackle box. well he went straight for my plastics. grabbed one sniffed it said umm. then took his fingernail and ripped my lure. took a look and said "this is impregnated with salt did you know that you cant use this here?" with my answer "i looked at the package before i put it in. i made sure it wasn't scented or anything." his reply "don't lie to me i can see the salt right here. now howmany of these lures do you have?" so right then and there i gave up my only two that i had that were"salted"

so my advice to everyone is to keep the packaging and keep your plastics

This new regulation is really a load of crap. With resident licsence prices going up while non-resident drops or stays the same and this new reg, I think the DOW needs to remeber who they work for.

Just me,, but can you have items conviscated for merely having posession? Perhaps they should start frisking people for ANY contraband, like dirty photos of your ex-wife, ETC...

I SAY FULL SEARCH OF ALL FISHERMEN FROM NOW ON.

I'm so glad I sold my float tube, now I have absolutely no reason to go to the "Peoples Republic of Quincy Res." That makes me sick!!!!!!!

1) The law states that a person cannot fish with bait, the law does not state that a person cannot posses bait

While I think this new rule is BS there are signs all over the Q that says you cant use it or have it.

For a few summers I fished the Q and caught many a bass w/o scented baits so im not complaing cause I cant catch fish otherwise. But ill tell you this. I dont think ill ever by a pass there again as long as this BS is in place.

IMO

Deleted the earlier post after taking a closer look at the City Code....those people are nasty!

They have a right to search ANY container brought into the park for ANY reason. Keeping the original package means nothing - say you replace one package for another. Doesn't matter it's up to their interpretation.

As far as bait, Jay, you're right - they could even probably accuse you of fishing with dough balls if you have a loaf of bread for sandwiches on you.

...and if you and your buddy go there, and you say something because they are hassling your buddy, they can not only ticket you, but they can arrest you for interfering.

That isn't what fishing (bait or not) is about for me. Haven't been there in a while and I won't be going back anytime soon.

Its all about the trout and the flyfisherman(nothing against Fly guys but you dont use bait so it doesnt effect you, only helps). It seems there plan is to piss off the rest of us so the trout guys can have the lake to themselfs. Looks like its working.

I wonder what would happen if everyone just stopped going there and spent their five bucks a day somewhere else? Maybe Barny Fife and his one bullet would have to find new work?

They stopped me two years ago and went thru one of my bags. I fish 100% lures but I did have 3 or 4 jars of Powerbait products in my bag that I kept for my kids to use at 11-Mile. I forgot they were in there ??? THe ranger dumped all the contents on the ground and took the Jars. At the end of the day i asked for them back and apologized for even bringing them in. The guy was a total jerk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mostly fish Aurora now.

What is the deal does the law say you can not use it or U can not posses it. I do not know how the law reads but I always have scent or salted somthing on the boat and I do not think I will unload to fish up there hope they miss my revenue.

Did you make him reimburse you for the damaged lure. Those guys are spook supremes!
They do not need to reimburse you for this. It is like fishing without a license, it is breaking the law and they have the right to confinscate it. Its up to them really.
Here is what I have a problem with though.... He wasnt fishing with it, yet. It doesnt say you cant have scented plastics in your tackle box on restricted waters.... I dont empty my tackle box everytime I go to a different lake.

OK, never been up there. If they signs say you cannot have it then the ranger has a right to take it, keep your packaging make it easy to prove it isnt scented or salted.

Here's a link to the regs. You can't even have bait anywhere near you. Check #75 - if you keep fish, it better be on a stringer and not in a fish basket! Oh yeah - and per #62 It's illegal to use a flashlight.

http://www.auroragov.org/stellent/groups/public/documents/article-publication/008956.pdf

I'm probably wrong on this but I think the regs are even stricter than at Spinney - I've left stuff behind in the truck because I was also fishing Elevenmile on the same trip. Hope I didn't break the law (since Spinney belongs to Aurora).

I wouldn't be surprised if next year you won't be able to use leaded sinkers since it's a drinking water supply.

We need to get a tacked thread about all the places this BS rule applies to.

Edited to add: I know it is in the regs but it seems like a good idead for people who visit the site to have that as a resource.

According to DOW (unless otherwise listed), you can have scented plastics on you and/or in your tackle box.  It's fine as long as you don't have them touch the water.

I went to the office and asked them here in Fort Collins.
