I heard that the crappie were hitting at Washington park, so I took my boy.  I've never fished there, but the Denver Parks website said that the crappie were in the north lake.  Since there were supposed to be a lot of species in there, we fished crawlers on the bottom and threw crappie jigs with the extra rods.  We fished about 2 hours until dark and the only bite was my son's yellow perch.  13" long and weighed a pound.  I weighed it on my wife's postal scale.  He's eating it as I type.  This is why I fish.  ;D

that's awesome.  Are you sending in a Master Angler's form for him?
Didn't think of it.  Thanks for the excellent suggestion.  Qualifying length for yellow perch is 12".

That is one of the last places I would expect to catch a nice fish like that!

Definitely send in for a Master Angler Award!

Congratulations!

I didnt even think of that...that fish does qualify for a Master Anglers Award....very cool.

Master Anglers Awards are awarded by Colorado DOW to individuals that catch a fish of "trophy" quality in local waters....its just a certificate, but its an accomplishment worth remembering...especially for young anglers like the happy boy with the perch in the pictures :)
